    Exclamation Volume Buttons / GUI

Are there no easy volume button keys on the side of the phone? Or a button to make it go straight to vibrate? Why does the interface look so 2D and not appealing. I feel like the phones so rudimentary when it comes to the actual display of colors, GUI, etc. Is there an app to change it? Everything looks so plain.

There are volume buttons located on the side. Holding the - button would put the phone into vibrate mode. The GUI is plain. But if you do a search on G1 themes, you will find plenty of companies making really slick aftermarket GUIs for the G1.

Not trying to sound snarky, but what do you expect? It's a Google-branded device, running Google apps on a Google-developed OS.

agreed, its time to go a step beyond just icons on a screen to a phone that has an actual OS with real functionality, and cut and paste, and a desktop.

One man's "plain" is another man's "spartan". Have you played with the emulator? It's rather slick, even though its simplistic.

I played around with the emulator for the first time last night. It only made me more excited for my phone to get here. It is simply amazing!

Google made an empire out of having a search portal that had nothing on it but a textbox, a button and a logo. Simple yet powerful, thats why we "google" stuff today instead of "lycos" stuff.
