i think if you allow non - market apps to be installed and your phone messes up then u prob voided your warranty but this shud kinda be discussed good post =]
i don't think this has been discussed yet...
would you void your warranty if...
your phone gets bricked after downloading an application from the android market?
you hack your phone and modify things on the OS and/or hardware?
you allow unknown source applications and your phone bricks?
i'm asking because google and t-mobile love talking about how open this phone is. but will they take responsibility if we take advantage of it?

My take on it is this: It is not their responsibility if someone doesnt know what they're doing messes up their phone. Just because a phone is open source isnt an excuse for dumb people to do things that are over their head and then file warranty claims.
Its like someone using a blender, throwing a brick in there and seeing if it blends, then taking it back to the manufacturer saying the thing doesnt work anymore and blaming/EXPECTING them to replace it.
Good question, I wonder what about those paying for the equipment protection...
To add to my other post and to address your first question, I'd be really pissed if something from the MP caused my phone to brick. In that case, I'd expect some reassurance and a quick resolution. Everything else is fair game.
ofcourse not
but i'm saying ... let's say you download an application from the market or you come across a very good application or game on the web and install it and your phone bricks , will they still give you another device?
or if you hack or change your OS (considering this is an open source OS) will it void your warranty?
yeah that's what i'm saying . the apps in the android store are supposed to be tested before they are actually put on their right? .. i'm hoping they'll take full responsibility if the phone messes up after downloading an app.
does anyone know iPhones policy on this? .. i'm sure it's probably the same. but things change when you modify other things because of it's open source OS
The only way to void you warrenty is by physical damage i.e. broken cracked plastice parts including the LCD, or if the liquid indicater is RED. If you were to down load a pp or something and it freezes your phone it maybe troubleshot but usally if it is a gonner we can file a handset exchange for software issues.
The EPP is for anyting outside of the warrenty lost/stolen, broken parts, or liquid damage its good to have just incase you need it.
