lol it doesn't recognize Indian names but when I started blurting out traditional/easy to spell names, it starting giving me accurate lists of contacts to call.

Like most other features on the phone, I was like WTF awesome! Let me find a reason to use it.

    Unhappy Re: Voice Dialing

The Voice Dial application in HTC Hero for Sprint isn't very useful if you are expecting hands-free using of the phone. The voice dial program included has a long delay if you aren't close to the actual name or description used (such as CALL BOB SMITH takes about 30secs where CALL BOB SMITH AT HOME takes about 3 secs as the number is stored in Bob's home # field). Along with this, even if the phone returns 1 choice, you still have that long wait time.

Otherwise, voice dial is good (when you are NOT driving)

    now for driving purposes ....

voice dial sucks. You have to take your eyes off the road to (1. find the voice dial button to press, 2. select the already correct or many #s to dial, and 3. if you have pwd-protected phone, you might as well crash or pull over).

voice dial does NOT work when you are trying to dial out with bluetooth, but once the phone makes the call, you can talk through the bluetooth earpiece.

Also, if you answer an incoming call and
    1. click the phone to answer ... your phone will answer, not your bluetooth
    2. click the bluetooth to answer, the bluetooth will answer, not the phone

Last thing, I have a friend at work that says that he can do hands-free with his HTC Hero in his car because he has a built-in bluetooth hands-free device that came from the dealer. So if you have that, check with your dealer and see if you can get the phone connected... at least you won't crash in your own car.

Even though I prefer the ear piece (and SO much easier for me than letting everyone in the car hear the conversation), I did find at Wal-Mart a bluetooth car hands-free system that looked reasonable for using.. it (with others) was located next to the auto car speakers section.

I think the Android developers were hoping one of "us" would program the bluetooth voice dialing, but then again it seems the actual programming commands to access the bluetooth stack are not available in the current sdk ... maybe again, they probably didn't have a good programmer to get the bluetooth working right (which may be the reason for the voice dial app) ... just my silly opinion.

I am legally blind and purchased a Motorola Android. Installed voice diaaler and having a problem getting it to work properly. My problem may be there is not enough text to speech when using the phone

not quite satisfied with yr answer - dos it mean it would "read" my cntcts as typed in ? I normally avoid using of "vowels" e.g. John I spell as Jhn - Sheila as Shla ; what happens then ? Can i not myself rcrd the name against each entry as i did in WINDOWS MBL Ver. 5 ? Do revert pl as soon as possible because I m a pARKINSON'S patient and am planning to buy SAMSUNG GALAXY S android. Have a Happy day. Navroz kanga.

I switched from win mobile phone to droid and don't like droids' voice command. I write numbers down on note pad and then activate VC to order phone to call that number. This works great with MS VC. Droid pulls up VC screen when activated and obscures the note pad I had open so I can no longer see the number I want to call. If I go back to the note pad page, VC is deactivated. Very frustrating. Does SVD2 behave the same way or will it leave the previous screen visible when activated? Thanks.

Well, can't find Smart Voice Dialer in the Google marketplace. Running froyo (2.2) and it doesn't have bluetooth voice dialing built in either.

Does anyone know if it's going to be possible to have true hands free voice dialing with these phones? (As it looks like froyo is not the solution I was hoping it would be)
