USA = bad, love the country. Technology is behind face it. ASIA/Europe beats us... we have cell phone towers.. they have satellites. They always have good reception, they just care about the phones, our stuff is always about marketing. They had picture/video messaging way before we had ours. You would think we would have video calling/conferencing by now... Bummer.

Sorry guys, but I think the main reason we lag in the technology department is due simply to population density. When you have a huge population stuffed into a tiny island, that's much higher RPT (revenue per tower, lol) than what's possible here. When everyone is spread out, like in the USA, and a company has to upgrade 10,000 towers instead of 500, it's a bit more cost-prohibitive.

I think one of the reasons we don't have that kind of tech here is because there are very few Americans that would put down 500 bucks for a phone and that's what a lot of people in asian countries do. A cell phone to them is kinda like a car to us because most people don't own cars there. It's the way they express themselves and since they don't have to pay for a car they have a little more dispensable income in that area thus opening up a great market for high end tech.

ehh, i disagree, doesn't matter how they view the item. since they don't have a car, they rather splurrge all their money on a phone?? i disagree, no way to prove that. my point is that we lack in technology period. theres plenty of people here who would pay to have those kinds of phones. &thats why we're the only country left converting to digital.. barely by 2009... :sigh:

Well I am actually speaking from experience. I've spent A LOT of time in Korea. It's a whole different culture there. I saw phones there then that our phones now don't even compare to. I do agree however that there are a lot of people here that would put down that much money for a phone just not quite as a high percentage as there.

Here in the UK we have 3G video calling. Its not exactly brilliant as the front camera on phones usually has a lower resolution then the main camera, I don't know anyone who uses it a lot, It's a bit of a gimmick, though I guess if you were away from your loved one(s) it would be great to call and see them.

Currently (until Oct. 22nd), I use a Samsung T-809 and it has one camera but it can flip 180 degrees. It's a nifty little feature, but it is only good for recording video while staring at the display because of the limitations with EDGE. I'm sure that a slightly different version of the phone was very useful for video conferencing on one of South Korea's high speed wireless networks.
