Question USB Recognition On PC = SD Card Disappear From Android?

Well one thing I'm loving about the G1 is being able to charge it just by using a standard USB cable and connecting it to either my PC or PS3 with the card also showing up as a USB drive on either system. However I'm finding out that when card is recognized on a computer, seems that Android will stop recognizing the storage card as if permission to view card is snatched or something.

Was wondering if anyone knows if this is a bug or something that can be fixed so both computer AND phone can view contents of the card.

It's not a bug. That is how usb mass storage works; if you mount the sdcard on your computer, the computer will be the only one that can read it. If you mount it on the phone it is the phone that reads it. The card can't be mounted at two places at once.

If you want to read it in both places, it requires additional software that has to be installed on your computer (but google didn't make any so there isn't that option).

If i understood your question correctly, then i believe once your G1 is plugged in to the PC, your G1 is not able to read the card because its recognized as kind of like a removable HD (can u tell im not really that computer savvy...i try though :-p)...its the same thing when i had my SK...once it was plugged in to the computer via usb, i wasent able to see my mp3's or pictures on my SK...i forget what thats called ...

    Hope this helpz :-D

Uncheck 'Settings->SD card & phone storage->Use for USB storage' to make your card visible in the G1 again. (I think!)

Ah thanks for the insight folks

Definitely not a stranger to USB devices but the G1 is the first device I owned that is actually functional upon being plugged in so I wasn't sure. I'll just make a note of just unchecking the USB storage setting then. Yall are the bestest ^_^

Did they remove this with the update? I can't seem to mount my android onto my PC anymore and the "Use for USB Storage" is not available anymore! That stinks, even when I unmount my card from my android my pc won't see the card when connected via USB.

Does anyone know if they removed it with the new update? I got it to work before, but now it's a no go...

Never mind! I found out what changed... They removed it from the SETTINGS Menu and when you connect via USB, you have to select the notification in your notification pull down. It gives you the option to MOUNT it to your computer when you click on that notification...
