Thread: US Cupcake Landscape Keyboard Issue

  1. #1

Default US Cupcake Landscape Keyboard Issue

On my G1 when using the landscape soft keyboard the bottom row of keys with the space bar, period and comma are not nearly as responsive as the other keys on the virtual keyboard. Sometimes I have to press one of these keys several times for it to register. It almost seems like the lower edge of each key is not touch sensitive, I have to click 1/2 to 2/3 of the way up the key to get somewhat reliable responses from these keys. The rest of the keyboard does not exhibit this behavior.

Is this by design? Anyone else having this issue?

I made a discovery. When typing if I keep my finger flat rather than pressing the keys with the fingertip, then all of my presses even on the bottom row get registered reliably. I'll just have to train myself to do this, not a big deal and I am sure it will become second nature.

I am LOVING my G1 with Cupcake. I just switched from an original iPhone (not 3G) to the G1 and what a difference. Dare I say it, the Android OS is more refined and just more fun to use than the iPhone OS. The awesome part is the 3G which I was not getting using an iPhone on T-mobile. Now I am paying the exact same amount but I have 3G and a phone that I like even more than the iPhone (which I really liked).

I've noticed that the 1.5 keyboard is less responsive than the ChompSMS keyboard, I don't know if you've used Chomp, but it was amazing, and I'm kind of disappointed by the 1.5 keyboard. But I'm dealing.

I also feel that many of the buttons while in landscape mode won't register unless I tap them twice. But I will try typing with a flat finger instead of the tips thanks to docprego.

I have noticed this too. Unfortunately this seems more than keyboard issue.

Try any app that lets you draw using finger, if you just press with you finger instead of "dragging" the finger you will notice your finger press will not register. This is more visible on the corners of the screen.

To work around this keyboard issue, try dragging instead of pressing, this seems to work for me.

A solution to this problem is buying the application called "Better Keyboard" its an application that makes the keyboard more responsive and bigger keys and changes the color of the skin to your likings...so if you wanna have a better android keyboard, than look into it...

    Are you sure?

To know the game is to play the game. There is no looking back, no backing out.
