Upgrading to JFv1.41 quick questions

Hello!

This is my first post on here, and I've tried to use the search to find answers before posting but I'm not having much luck. Basically I've got root on my G1 (RC8)

and have previously been using Droidsans for all my rotatey phone needs. However now I see that the latest Jesus Freak (official badge wearing legend that man) upgrade has it and more. (Oh sweet multi touch) I'm going to re-flash but clocked the following line :-

"If you are staying on the same build, i.e. from JFv1.31 RC30 to JFv1.41 RC30, then you shouldn't have to do a wipe."

I don't have the old file I flashed with, and the 'about' section on the phone doesn't seem to correspond. So my question is as follows - How do I find out which kernel version I'm running?

Out of interest how does the old themes change work, as in, if I do the upgrade process on the phone then does it replace the kernel info? As in, to get a theme am I chopping and changing Kernels? Or just updating the specific graphical files; leaving everything else in tact?

Umm, just stay with the JF RC8 v1.4.1 and you'll be fine. At the moment, double-digit RC# is US firmware and single digit is UK.

To find your system software information, go settings, about phone, scroll to the bottom of that about screen.

Oh and you might have to wipe your G1. Backup first. I had to wipe mine after applying v1.4.1.

What benefits follow if you go fom JFv1.31 to 1.41 if your just an average user of themes, etc and don't use much of anything else?

Their are none, if you don't use the browser as much or even care if the phone auto rotates

Thank for responding, I don't care about the auto rotate. And I use the browser a lot, but it's current state doesn't bother me.

Just wanted to make sure I'm not missing out on something big.

Cool,

If you're content with your phone as it is, then it's no need to upgrade just yet...

But keep your eye's open to whats going on though.
