Default Upgrading sd card from 1gb to 8gb

I am new to this so I apologize if this has been answered somewhere or if it seems like a stupid question, but I just rooted my G1 and upgraded to the latest jf1.5 build. My question is about the sd card. I currently have partitioned the 1gb card that comes with the phone to have a 200MB EXT2 and the rest is FAT32. I know I will be upgrading to an 8GB card shortly. I know I can backup and transfer the stuff thats on the FAT32 partition, but what about the EXT2. Im worried that I will loose my app data. I have some apps that store lists, and other data which i already lost in the rooting process. Should I wait till I get the 8gb card to re enter all that stuff, or can I do it now and Transfer it later?

    thanks for any help

Not too sure, but I believe app data is saved on the fat32, if there is an import / export option.

In the past I've used Clonezilla Live to copy data from an existing hard drive/partition to a new one, when upgrading to a bigger drive. It can duplicate the data from one partition to another exactly (even if they are different sizes).

I should mention I have never used it for flash memory devices so I am not 100% sure it can handle SD cards. But it's a possible option.

So Im at the exact position where the OP has described. I have my 1gb card partitioned, I bought an 8gb card and i just partitioned it. I took out the 1gb card and put in the partitioned 8gb and it froze my G1...i rebooted and hangs on the G1 screen. I turned the phone off and put in the original 1gb card and booted up fine. What do I need to do transfer whats on my ext2 to my new sdcard? All I can resort to if there is no way, is wipe and I don't wanna go through that again...

Does anyone know if the Dane-Elec 16GB microSDHC works with the G1? I saw it in the android community store. I want to upgrade, so trying to figure out what card to get.
