The phone should update shortly, update are not tied into your phone number.
So I just purchased a G1 about 1.5 week back and realize there was a dead pixel. I was able to take it back to the store and they gave me a brand new one. Now my question is prior to the exchange I have the 1.1 firmware update. With the new one, I'm back at 1.0. Will the phone update again shortly or would I be stuck on 1.0 firmware since I've always updated once under by phone number?

I believe it should determine if you do or do not need the update. Why don't you just download the darn think and install it yourself? That's what I, and many others, did.
I'm actually new to the phone AND this forum. Can you please link me to the firmware and instructions please?
This may force the update, not sure though:
On the Home screen, press the Menu button, tap Settings, scroll down and tap About phone, then tap System updates.
Not sure if that'll do it, but worth a try.
If the OP is on 1.0 then they won't have the "System Upgrades" option. Best thing to do is to download the Any Cut from the market and then make a shortcut to "Device Info" and you can then hit the "check for upgrade" button on that screen.
The phone already checks about 2 times a day for upgrades but using the Any Cut shortcut you can check anytime you want to. Although this doesn't guarantee you will get the upgrade when you check because you can only get it if T-Mo sent out the upgrade to your phone. But at least you can check throughout the day by yourself
I contacted T-Mobile and they told me there is no possible way for them to manually sent out signal. They went around in circle and to sum it all - there is no way they can help me.
Right, it's like I said. When it's your phones turn it will be sent out. But with the option I mentioned in my last post, you may be able to get it a tad earlier by keep on checking for and update.
When the over the air updates (OTA) get sent out , there's nothing we can do to get it faster unless you download and flash the update yourself like many members do. So your phone will check like once or twice a day on it's own and when it's your time your phone will get the update.
on 3rd day - still no update =/
