I have the Bronze G1. I know what your talking about but after about a week of use I got used to it and familiar with where the keys fall. But to answer your question I've got no clue.
I ahve the brown version of the phone and when the backlight iluminates it makes the letter really hard to see. It is not like the black phone where the contrast between the black and white is noticable.
If you could turn off the backlight unless it was needed that would solve the problem.

is there a way to turn off the backlight of the keyboard? I have a Bronze G1, and its actually easier to read the keys in certain lighting conditions when the backlight is off. This happens on my MacBook Pro also, so I normally just turn it off. I dont see a setting for this on the G1.
I actually want the opposite. I would like to make it stay on for 10 seconds or so
No go at this point
I'm writing this on a bromze g1 in a poorly lit living room (~3 15w cf bulbs) and cant see the keys for crap. it works great under fluorescent lights at work, i wonder if they ever tested it outside the office. anyway i would also love to be able to toggle the backlight myself.
or make the backlight timeout last longer? i hate how fast it goes away
I just got the white, I can see the keyboard better when its off, I'm surprised noone has made an app for this...
same thing here, white G1, you can see it better on daylight with backlight off. PLEASE SOME ONE MAKE AN APPS TO TURN ON OFF BACKLIGHT, we will really appreciate it!!![]()
