Default Trying to install PDAnet "no android device detected"

    Hello,

I am trying to get the tethering app to work, however when i try to install it says it doesnt see my device. I have usb debugging enabled.
I believe I am missing the driver to make this work. I read crazythunder's tut on Adb\fastboot which described how to install the driver manually, but my usb mass storage device does not line up with what he said it should be called.

-To find the correct one, right click on the USB Mass Storage device & click Properties. -Go to the Details tab.
-In the combo box at the top that says "Device Instance Id", bring up the pull down & choose "Compatible Ids".
-If that is the correct device, then you will see 3 entries:

    • USB\Class_ff&SubClass_42&Prot_03
    • USB\Class_ff&SubClass_42
    • USB\Class_ff
    mine says

    USB\DevClass_00&SubClass_00&Prot_00
    USB\DevClass_00&SubClass_00&
    USB\DevClass_00
    USB\COMPOSITE

If I try to install the driver it says
"The specified driver does not contain information about your hardware"

    Help please!

when you plug your phone in, look in device manager on pc. if you see adb interface, try manually updating the drivers to the ones found in the 1.5 sdk. they are located in the usb driver folder. reboot both phone and pc and try again. don't let windows pick the drivers. make sure to select "i will choose the driver to install".

is usb debugging enabled on your phone? i've seen windows just refuse to recognize certain devices until it had a clean install. you might simply have a corrupted registry. if you know how to make an image of your hdd, then you could do a clean install and see if it recognizes your phone after that. if not, simply revert to the image you made.
does your pc recognize the sdcard when you mount it? if so, update the drivers the same way as i described before once the phone is mounted.

yeah debugging is on. the sd does mount but when i try to install the driver i get "The specified driver does not contain information about your hardware"

its not worth it for me to do a fresh install. this is my work computer and i dont really wanna go through all that. im sure thats what it needs.
    i f'n hate windows.

I managed to solve this and thought I'd share how it went. I had the same problem on Vista when I connected a different android phone and at first forgot to set USB debugging on. After that it would not recognize the phone. Searched all forums and nothing worked until I uninstalled the USB Mass Storage Device controller in Device Manager. After that, I installed PDANet again and it went smooth.
