The OFFICIAL "my cupcake is a bit stale" Thread (issues/annoyances/wishlist) (US OTA)

Well, I took the manual plunge, as many of you did. I did stream some of the update live and I think it's recorded. I wasn't thinking and didn't record the whole thing.

Now what...?

For starters, a couple of my apps showed as needing updates (chompSMS and Useful Switchers). I know of figured these would need it since chomp removed their keyboard (in favor of the built in one) and Useful Switchers had to make their GPS/Wireless Location conform with the 1.5 SDK.

But then...

about 80% of my apps said "Update Available" (or whatever it says). I figured it was a compliance thing again, so I started updating, one by one. Then ALL of my apps (sans the ones I was in the process of updating) said "free" or "purchased" next to them...as if they weren't installed at one time, but are no longer.

The apps still show in the drawer on the home screen, and the show up in aTrackDog.

Regardless, I'm still updating them...one by one...just to make sure they are installed properly.

What issues or annoyances have you seen so far? What would you like to see different?

Please keep the chatter to the US OTA (or manual ) update. ADP1 ok too. No root or custom build (haykuro, jf, etc) chatter.

If a mod would be so kind to sticky this, that would be great.

I have JF 1.5 and i hope the US root Ver. come out soon. My friend got his G1 brick by using Haykuro SPL 6.0 that sucks. I told him not too.

@ OP - I noticed a few apps come up missing... I haven't tracked down the issue, yet. Let me know if you find anything out as it's been irritating me as well.

1. The camcorder quality is the worst i've ever seen. I saw some videos uploaded with Android on youtube that are very nice! I dont get it, did they use the Magic?

2. The phone feels slightly slower, and laggy.

Lol , I have been waiting for this thread ! With so many people expecting miracles with cupcake , there are going to be many frustrated and disappointed g1 users . My cupcake was fresh out of the oven thanks to jf .

The video quality is better than you think , it just takes some getting used to . Make sure the lighting is decent and move the camera SLOWLY . I shot terrible video at first , now its pretty good . You just can't move the camera too fast .

I don't understand this thread. Everyone has been nagging and impatient, including myself, for T-Mobile to release this "cupcake" update. The update hasn't even reached a large number of g1 owners, and someone has already decided to pick at its flaws. With an "OPEN" OS like Android, there are bound to be a few issues with an entirely revamped layout and features. That is what the "system updates" option is for - So any small bugs and user issues can be solved in the future. I'm sure T-Mobile knows 1.5 is not absolutely perfect, but be patient! Many of the small issues will probably be cleared up in the near future. For now, just enjoy the new features and the endless possibilities that the G1 offers its owners!

Hahaha it was only a matter of time before the thread would appear hahaha.
Take video in well lighted areas and you'll see a difference. The phone is a lot faster I dont know what your talking about. Try deleting a 500 txt message thread and watch, it will not force close on you.

I'm completely happy with cupcake, it has enhanced my G1.

To be honest, I never got into the hype of cupcake. Sure I was excited to get it. But most of the 'new' features should have come with the phone, out of the box. I was able to take video and upload it directly to YouTube from my Helio Ocean...2 years ago.

This thread was in no way intended to bash the update. It was simply started so we had a single, common place to post some quirky things...like apps not showing up and what-not.

I'm very happy with the update. I think the camera speed is the biggest improvement.
