    Default The advatages of the cupcake builds

    I was wondering if someone can explain what the main advantage of updating to the cupcake builds is. Is it faster than RC33 v 1.42?

    Well, if I am correct, the main advantages of the Cupcake builds are the built in video playback, redesign of the interface (minor from what I can tell), and the onscreen keyboard.
    I noticed a fair speed decrease after installing TheDude's v0.8 Cupcake build on top of JF's RC33 1.42, but after I wiped the phone it seems to be a bit faster.

    If you aren't sold on the onscreen keyboard, or you really want to save a few hundred kilobytes on a video player, you should wait for the OTA Cupcake that is probably coming out in May

    yeah i tried one of the builds out there... i gained pretty much nothing from it... and i totally hated the onscreen keyboard and its poor integration into apps like the browser...and on top of that it seemed a bit laggy compared my brother's iphone. I liked how it let you delete texts easily and the video recorder wasn't bad... but i lost chompsms which is way better and faster than the built in app. so i had to switch back next day.

    The dudes cupcake builds don't seemed to be optimized for the g1 so it actually runs pretty slow. I loaded the dude's 0.8 image and immediately noticed the speed decrease from haykuro's G builds.

    The haykuro "G" builds are actually quite fast, faster than jf rc33. I would suspect that the official cupcake image will be faster still.

    Some of the main features of cupcake that I really like are:

    * Much faster browser performance
    * BT stereo
    * soft keyboard
    * ability to view youtube videos in high quality.
    * improved camera speed and quality
    * video recording and youtube upload integration
    * improved calendar app
    * improved gmail app with ability to do operations on multiple email messages
    * widgets (jsharkey's weather widget is great!)

    I loaded them both back to back to back.

    had G installed, installed dudes, noticed the speed decrease immediately, went back to G and noticed the speed increase.

    I did a clean wipe when installing the dude's image as well.

    With nandroid backup, its easy to switch builds without worrying about losing data.

    The advantage is you dont have to wait for the OTA to gain all the abilities that the FW 1.5 update will bring later when its officially released. Like dwang was speculating, the real 1.5 image will probably run faster/smoother and if JF/thedude/haykuro all jump into the same boat im sure they will knock this thing out of the park in no time.
