As I recall and I could be completely wrong, but when I purchased my phone online the only option it gave me was the $25 plan OR the $35 plan.. I didn't look very hard to find another option, but from what I remember those were the only options, there wasn't a "Purchase without service" button.

I think the was for promotions sake, once the phone is released i belive he will be able to buy the phone at MSRP, which i belive was 399.99.

Thanks for the responses... it'd be a lot better to test the application on a phone plan with no plan than the emulator.

    my bad it was $399

    http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/23/t...s-a-few-detai/

"More interestingly, buyers would be able to have access to a "contract free" G1 (with a price point of $399), and could unlock the device with T-Mobile's blessing after 90 days."

curious: what is the application the you are working on?

299 is the cost if you are an existing customer that isn't due an upgrade. The phone retails for 399 outright...

Still unsure if that gets you a phone without a plan. If you chose not to extend your contract you would pay 399 as well.
