I have the opposite problem. I'm going to the UK in July and want to take the phone with me. What do I need to do with this? Notify T-mobile before I go? Thanks

No, unless you are willing to pay for roaming (not cheap). Call them and request unlock code for your phone. Buy a local sim card when you are there.
