    Default Sync issues

This isn't the first time it's happened, but last time I did a wipe.

My sync has stopped working 2 nights ago. No icon in the notification bar. In the Data Synchronization settings menu, everything is checked and the little sync icon just sits there, not doing anything. I try unchecking and rechecking and a combination thereof, and still just some stuck icons.

I've tried rebooting. Nada. Disabling sync - rebooting - enabling sync. Nada.

Anyone else run into this kind of issue before?

Something like this started happening to me when I did a backup, factory reset, and then restored all settings on the newly reset system. It seems that it had already sync'd before I restored my contacts, so it was deleting all the imported contacts and replacing them with my backup ones. I had an error come up that told me that I've exceeded the amount of allowed deleted contacts. It then gave me three options: Don't Do Anything, Delete Contacts, Undelete. It kept giving me the same error over and over again, so I finally just chose "Delete" several times.

It eventually went away, but since then, my G1 will not sync the contacts anymore. When I look on the "settings>data synchronization" page, it has an error next to only Contacts, and a note at the bottom that says "Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly." I have had the same error since February 4th. I have been dreading another factory reset, but I think that might be the only solution for me.

Is yours happening with ALL sync, or just contacts? Do you get an error at all?

It's happening with ALL sync. No error. It just looks like it's trying to start to sync but never succeeds. =(

I had to dig through my memory to see what I was doing the last time it was able to sync. I was installing stuff from the market.

The out of space icon popped up in my notification bar.

I realize now that that was the problem.

It won't sync when it's low on space.

After a couple quick app uninstalls, the friendly sync icon was back in my notification bar and I was back in business.

Good to know for future reference.

I started having this problem today and just now figured out a fix for it. This worked for me.

I logged into my GMail account and backed up my contacts (there is an Export link at the top of GMail) just to be on the safe side, but it wasn't necessary.

To get my contact sync to work again I did the following:

    1) In Settings -> Data Synchronization I turned off all of the sync options
    2) I rebooted the phone
    3) When the phone started up I went into Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications and located "Contacts and myFaves storage". I clicked it then clicked the "Clear data" button on the new screen
    4) I went back to Settings -> Data Synchronization and turned all of the sync options back on. I then did a manual synch.
    5) Sync is now working correctly again.

Hopefully this will help someone else who has run into the same problem.
