RE: the last two posters - pauses/dropouts every 30 secs
Try turning off WiFi - this DEFINITELY fixes this problem for me. When I forget to turn off WiFi, I have this issue with my Nokia BH-604 headphones.
Please try this and report back!

YES! I just noticed that today, too; it's not a skip, but a pause. I noticed something else, too. After the pause, it actually SPEEDS UP the audio for a few seconds -- pitch and temp increase ever so slightly. WTF?!
Anyone else notice this?
I'm using a Sony HWS-BTA2W Bluetooth Receiver in my car plugged into the car's AUX jack.

wolfmeiister, I think people mentioned before, disabling wifi helps but doesn't completely fix the problem. With wifi on it skips around every 40 seconds. With wifi off it varies, skips once every few minutes or so but still very noticeable.
not to sidetrack the discussion but here's another issue i've had...
while music works perfectly for me,.. since A2DP was introduced, i haven't been able to take a call through my bluetooth set. it worked perfectly before, and when a call comes in the music cuts out like it should, but I can't hear the other party. I think they can hear me though. It doesn't make a difference if i send or receive the call.. it just doesnt work. not even if i go into bluetooth settings and set my bt receiver as calls only. anyone have this problem? i dont have any other bt devices to try so I don't know if it's the device or the phone's software..
this is the bluetooth receiver i'm using: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...F2N53XV9W9AGTR
I just purchased the Jabra BT3030 Bluetooth headset. I've had zero cut-outs or drops when paired with my G1, which is rooted and running Cyanogen's 3.6.8.1 ROM. I was previously using the Plantronics Voyager 855 headset with the non-rooted, stock Android install on the G1, and it cut out frequently.
Another plus is that the BT3030 is more of a Bluetooth receiver, in that it has a 3.5mm stereo jack so that any headset can be used with it. It's so nice to be able to use my old favorite cans via BT, rather than having to adjust to a new set.
Turning off wifi works! I can't believe I waited so long to try it, but there are no more skips/pauses when the wifi is off.
I paired my Sony Ericsson IS800 without any problems with my Hero, and it works fine, wifi or no wifi.

I use the Altec BB906s, and they skip terrible when the phone is in my pocket. I just got replacements which seem to work a little better. WiFi and GPS are off, same problem. I will try going to EDGE only some time, but I doubt it will help.
I use the 906's adaptor with my music player (Gigabeat) and have NONE of these problems. This leads me to believe the G1 is not cranking out enough BT, or the phones receiver is not sensitive enough.
I also have a Moto S705, which is not as good sound quality, but the range is SLAMMING! I can go 30 ft away and it is still nailed up. I would expect that the 705 has a much better receiver. These you could find at T-Mobile stores for a while for $20, and they use your own earphones or the ok ones that are included. If only they sounded a little better. Oh, and an FM Radio. I kept it for that alone...
