    Default Suggested Retail Price Question

So I'm not eligible for the $179 price because my contract is up in February, and it shows the $299 for me. I know out the door this ends up to be around $350 with upgrade price and everything. With the Suggested Retail Price showing $399, does anybody else feel like it might be better to just wait until they are out and go in and pay like $425 instead? I have never paid retail for a phone from T-Mobile before, but I would assume that then they can't force you to have any specific data plans and they can't make you pay the upgrade fee either, and that way I can get a full discount on a phone when my contract expires and sell one of them to recoup the cost. Is this feasible? Has anybody paid full price for a handset while under contract before?

well you should be eligable for an upgrade price in december...but, i don't know if it will be $179. they may give it to you for $199 with a two year upgrade and data service in december. i know you are eligable for the upgrade discount at 22 months if your current plan is for 2 years and 11 months if you are on a 1 year.

It just seems like I would save $75 and be tied down for two more years at this point. I've been with T-Mobile for 10 years and don't plan on leaving, but I hate having a long contract ahead of me, especially if I still have to pay over $300 for the phone. I'll find out when exactly I can upgrade.

You can probably walk into a tmobile store and say look i want this phone but i dont want to pay $400 and tell them you'll agree to sign for another two years. I'm sure they'll let you do it. If they don't go find another tmobile store. I'm sure someone will be willing to bend th rules for you. Those stores dont make anything on the phones, they make commission from selling plans so i can guarantee you someone will do it as long as you're willing to sign the 2 year agreement.

Even if you pay retail, you'd still have to pick one of their data plans, either the 400 msgs, or unlimited plan. I know with the sidekick, regardless of whether you got a deal or paid the full retail price you HAVE to have the $20 data plan on it.

If I were you, I'd just wait till december and get it for $179, with this being a new phone with such a big release, and demand, I doubt any stores will "bend the rules" for you as they know that if you don't pay full price, somebody else will.

Well I don't have 3G in my area, and I have unlimited family text messages and the $5.99 t-zones hack. I'm sure it will be easy to get the hack to work on Android, so I would basically have the same service as I have now but have to pay $30 more per month for it. The gmail I would imagine would still work, but I guess I can find that out as well.

Yeah, I have never tried to get an upgrade before my contract is up, but I might try that and just see if they'll let me get it cheaper. My guess is that they will just offer me the $299 price and another two years on the contract.

Wait til December...I've been waiting for this phone too long to wait until December. I might just see what they are going for resale after they are released. If they are available through Tmobile for $400, I can't imagine there would be a higher price resale. I think these things will sell, but they seem to have a higher supply than the iPhone and the demand won't be as high, so we shouldn't see the astronomical markup on the G1 as we did on the iPhone. That is all assuming that T-Mobile will even let you buy one without a contract, which is not a guarantee.

I totally understand, I'm incredibly impatient when I've been waiting for something already. Though the idea of buying it from a 3rd party will probably be more cost prohibitive. People will charge more because they know people are trying to avoid the contract renewal. Good luck though!
