strange problem

Hello all,

First I have to say I love my g1 it is 10001 times better than my wing, but I have discovered recent issues that tmobile tech support blames on my area not the phone. The problem is when I hit the end button to turn the screen off or lock the phone ill miss calls or won't get text messages till after I turn the screen back on or unlock it. Now I'm not turning the phone off just the screen and a lot of times when I bring it back it will tell me no signal. I know I get signal where I live I've been here for 6 years all with tmobile and never had an issue before. It will generally restore the signal about 30 seconds after its unlocked. Also for miss calls its not really missed they go directly to voice mail so I only see that I have a new vm. I'm guessing this is because of the no signal while locked.

Any fixes for this or any others having similar issues or info about this? Tmobiles tech support is about worthless "been with them 8 years and dread every time I've had to call. But the customer service is good" so getting a real answer out of them even from the teir 3 techs is a pita.

*FIXED*

Ok guys so it took me some time figuring it out, but I have found the solution to the problem. After several conversations with both Tmobile tech support guys and the Engineers, getting a grand total of 3 g1s, we figured out what causes the problem. Your sim card causes the problem, not the phone. Apparently Tmobile does updates occasionally to sim cards, when i got the g1 I didn't bother to swap to the new sim card in the box, because my previous phone was stollen a few months before and I had just gotten a sim card. Well apparently there is an update for the sim that was on the sim cards that came with the G1. So Tmobile did an update to the sim card, and since then I have not had 1 previous problem mentioned.

So in short if your experiencing any problems with:

Dropped Service (typically it happens when your screen is off)
Delayed Text or not recieving
Missed calls that don't register with your phone (meaning someone calls you and it rings the full time like your phone is on, but your phone never recieves a call)

Call tmobile g1 tech support and talk to them about updates for your sim card, or call then and swap out sim cards with the one that came with your G1.

try to swap your tmobile sim with another tmobile sim...my bet would be your G1 unit that causing problem.

My girl friend called me but i didnt get it..she told me i did sms ya too but honestly i didnt get it...she also use G1...hehehe..itz rele odd..

I also have the issue where i don't get text messages.... sometime i will get them a few hours latter and sometimes not at all, but it never really crossed my mind that it could be because the phones screen is of.....

i ran an experiment today 10 messages with the screen on and 10 with it off. with the screen on i got all the messages almost instantaniously. with the screen off i got 6 instantly 3 about 5 to 10 mins later and 1 an hour later.
