Hi
Got a G1 a while ago and decided instead of buying a new G1 headset, or headphone adapter, I cut up and old set of earbuds and am currently trying to splice the speakers onto the G1 headset's cables.
I have cut the two (right and left) cables above the controller button on the G1 headset, and cut the earbuds off the old headphones at roughly the same spot.
So I have 4 cables:
left g1 cable: green wire & copper wire (ground?)
right g1 cable: red wire & copper wire (ground?)
The connections on the old earbuds are the exact same, but when I wrap the wires together I don't get any sound
any ideas? has anyone tried this? wouldn't suprise me given the crap headphones that are given with the G1 and the proprietary connection.
Cheers
ed
I take it you stripped the red and green insulation from the two wires?
What you describe certainly sounds correct. The outer copper strands that surround the inner cable should be connected together, as should the copper core under the red insulation on the G1 lead, to the copper core under the red insulation from the headphones lead. Same for the green.
The most likely scenario is that you have a short - i.e. the outer copper (the ground) is touching the inner core somehow. This is especially common if you've soldered the wires, as when the outer copper heats up it melts through the insulation surrounding the inner core.
