    Let's try and convince Google to let devs keep using Google Apps in their custom builds so that Android doesn't become a corporate tool.

    I think this is A) dumb, B) missing the point.

    Google has no problem with you using the current stable closed source apps in custom builds. It's when you use their unfinished, untested, unstable closed source apps that they get angry. Why? Because the app could be using test data, be unstable, change peoples opinion about Google apps, etc.

    Anyway, sign a bogus petition if you want -- it won't change a thing.

    I think a solution has already been reached. Cyanogen figured out a way to release roms without interfering with the Google apps.

    @Scythe they have a problem when in a custom build you use any "Google Experience" applications that are closed source. This includes Gmail, Market, etc. They don't care if you use the untested/unfinished applications.

    @Synergy,
    The issue that’s raised is the redistribution of Google’s proprietary applications like Maps, GTalk, Market, and YouTube. These are not part of the open source project and are only part of “Google Experience” devices. They are Google’s intellectual property and I intend to respect that. I will no longer be distributing these applications as part of CyanogenMod
    if you call that a solution, then congratulations. But even if you "Google-ify" the build after the intsall it's a waste of time that could be fixed simply.

    Did you understand the entire post?
    The idea is that you’ll be able to Google-ify your CyanogenMod installation, with the applications and files that shipped on YOUR device already. Or, you can just use the basic ROM if you want. It will be perfectly functional if you don’t use the Google parts. I will include an alternative app store (SlideMe, or AndAppStore, not decided yet) with the basic ROM so that you can get your applications in case you don’t have a Google Experience device.
    Google doesn't want their proprietary apps on non "google experience" devices. Cyanogen's solution is to build a "blank" rom that has the ability to put the proprietary apps back on, if and only if the apps are already on the phone. This prevents non "google experience" phones from getting the proprietary apps because they are not already on the phone.

    Huh? That doesn't make sense.

    Care to back that up with sources?
