Required Data Plan?

When i preordered I did not order a data plan.

i did the same thing. but even before i preordered, i called CS and asked them if it was really required since i'm not a new customer and was merely out of contract and wanted to upgrade. she even cited the example of the where you could buya sidekick without the sidekick plan.but then, after reading a few threads in here. i called them again and spoke with another CS saying that it's mandatory to have a data plan. but so far, in my order it does not reflect that i added a data plan. in short . she said, that everything is still uncertain til i get the phone in my hand on after the 22nd.
i hope i pull it through
