You may not have entered your local area codes in your contacts. When you receive an SMS, you also get the area code and thus makes the number foreign to you.
I have the HTC Desire Z. Sent sms display the recipients' name in the built-in sms program, but Received sms do not display sender's name, only the phone number.
How to correct this?
Thanks
John

Hi,
I have also HTC desize Z and have the same problem. Every received SMS appear as phone number (with country code - in my situation +48).
I use only google contact and every contact has entered phone number with country code (+48).
When I tap phone number in bulit-in SMS reader and choose "open contact" - its open correct contact.
Any idea? (sorry for my english).
Best regards

I still occasionally do not get the name of the caller or sms sender when receiving a call or sms, just the number.
Even when there is the contact's country code in my phone book, I sometimes don't know the caller's identity.
So what I do is to add the number I see on the phone to the existing contact. Then the name appears in the sms list or call history.
I therefore have 2 numbers for the contact, one with & one without country code. A bit clumsy, but it works
