Thread: Problems with the latest cyanogenmod ROM (can't find with search)

Default Problems with the latest cyanogenmod ROM (can't find with search)

First, I can't enable the HTC keyboard. I had it at first, as default with no android option, but I had to do a wipe to fix some force close issues. Now it is gone and no option in the settings menu.

Second, when I hold the home and power buttons down to get to the recovery screen it is the JF 1.41 version, with the odd background you get when following this guide and files http://androidcommunity.com/forums/f...de-easy-11825/ Is this the normal screen in the latest 3.6.5 build, or is it a byproduct of the guide and files used in it to root?

I liked that way of rooting because it did not require downloading a file to the phone to do the terminal commands plus it only had 2 short commands. tho I could have used the standard files and builds when using this guide, instead of the JF ROM is uses, as the only files in the download it links, that differ is the install command and recovery test keys files. I think thats right, use those two files with standard R29 build and hard spl files then flashed any ROM I wanted.

Third, what is an easy way to partition my SD card in windows or on the phone itself? I have linux on my computer, so I could always stick it in my reader, just looking at different options.

I wiped the phone before I flashed but still got force closes, the second time I didn't allow the phone to reboot after the wipe and installed. So far no force closes and its running great. So I am happy with that. I just plan on installing a theme soon. To bad you must flash each theme to the phone everytime when you want to change themes. Just these few questions is only thing right now.

One last thing. what would these files listed on the cyanogenmad thread over on xda be for? I tried looking through the thread, but its 560 pages long.

    In regards to this link:

    http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?p=3915123

It's probably wise that you flash it since its the most feature rich and stable of the recovery images out there. Your recovery screen still says JF 1.41 because you haven't updated it. Whenever your update your ROM, your recovery image isn't updated, so you would need to do it manually. Download the update.zip from this link:

    http://n0rp.chemlab.org/android/cm-r...3.1-signed.zip

and apply it like any other update.zip.

You can't enable the HTC keyboard because it's not there anymore. The cyanogen builds by default use the google keyboard, so your HTC keyboard was overwritten when you wiped and updated. You will have to install again following the instructions from this website:

    http://haykuro.theiphoneproject.org/?p=213

In regards to audio resources and incremental updates:

Audio resources contains all the media files (ringtones, notifications sounds, alarms) found in /system/media/audio

Incremental updates is one that you dont really need, but its a site that allows you to download a version of cyanogens specific builds.

So the incremental updates is just so you can update from one build to a newer build without flashing a whole ROM file.

The build notes claim the HTC keyboard is still in the new build. If not its a shame, I got the briefest taste and I liked it.

The audio is the ring tones normally on the phone, removed for space reasons? Unzip to linux partition or any partition?

And the recovery screen, You are saying I should use the one you linked or the one linked by cyanogen? Edit: noticed they end up being the same, thanks.

And all the files just need be named update and apply as normal correct?

Unzip the audio resources if you find your ringtones missing. Yeah, name all the files to update (or update.zip if you are showing extensions in windows), just follow that link to haykuros blog, and install the HTC_IME that way.

Cyan builds DO HAVE the HTC keyboard. All you do is go to settings, locale and text, uncheck android keyboard and then you have the HTC keyboard.

Just went ahead and unzipped to regular partition and worked fine. Will flash the updates and install the keyboard. Thanks

Already tried that, when I disable it I get no on-screen at all. I will try once more and do a reset.

If your are rooted youu shouldn't need to do a reset. Just go into the recovery consoleand do a wipe and then install 3.6.5 you should have the keyboard. They have been in his last 4 or 5 updates.

I re-wiped and installed the 3.6.5 build already, and no keyboard. I could try again, but I'm not sure if it will work.

And I have no clue on how to manually install the keboard from the link above. I can type commands no problem but the where to have file downloaded to and should it be extracted first are not part of my common knowledge.

Edit: I placed the file on my card and used astro to find and install. It installed fine, but I got a warning about it being able to log my key stokes or some such mess, when I enabled it. If thats normal then ok, but if not and it is in the 3.6.5 build. I may try to reinstall when I get up in 3 hours. lol

edit number 2... I went ahead and trying again. I like the trackball support on the recovery screen, very nice.... Aaand it worked, odd it wasn't on there before lol... Any lingering questions left unanswered up there? I'm running on empty amd my brain is shutting down, so I can't remember if they all got answered. thanks all
