Problems with landscape keyboard!

I bought my phone (HTC Desire S) just over a week ago now and i have had this problem ever since....

When i am texting with the landscape keyboard and especially when i use the backspace button the phone jumps to the delete message screen without me asking it too. When i return to the texting screen, the keyboard will not appear and i have to exit the message and go back into it before i can carry on my message.

Ive started to wonder if its because the way im holding the phone is causing other buttons to be pressed, however ive tried holding it different ways and now i do not think this is whats causing the problem.

has anyone else had this problem and have any advice?

I have the same problem on my HTC Incredible S. It seems to be a HTC Sense problem. Any solutions? It is a huge annoyance if you write a lot of text messages.
