I have found my GPS to be working like it is supposed to. When I am inside it puts me 1/4 mile from where I really am (which is frustrating), but outside it seems to be very accurate. For all intents and purposes, you really need to be outside for best "reception" with the satelites. If you have AndNav installed you can walk around and have the icon follow your position (you have to enable that option). Pretty cool to see your GPS man move around the screen with you. AndNav will give you turn by turn directions like a mounted GPS will inside a car, also very cool. If I remember right AndNav ties into 20 satelites so it should have a pretty accurate fix on your position. High end GPS units tie into 32 satelites for comparison. Try that app and see if it works better for you. Hopefully that will eliminate any problems you are having.
Actually, all units are capable of receiving all satellites. In order to get a fix, you only need to "see" four satellites (sometimes less under certain circumstances). This wikipedia article has just about everything you ever need to know about GPS and how it work, including the 32nd GPS satellite which is currently turned off.

it was bouncing around in ontario and bouncing to my area and back to ontario. I'll try the wifi and cell tower option off as soon as i can.
yea using just GPS only, it wouldnt lock in my location. Clear skies and spent 5 minutes. first day i got this phone, it worked fine; idk why its doing this now...
OK with this latest update my GPS problems are gone. It knows where I am on the google map, even inside of my house. Before it said it couldn't find a signal.
I was actually riding the train and the GPS dot on the map moved when the train moved. It kept up fairly well. When you move fast the dot jumps a larger distance and when you slow down the dot jumps just a little. Anyways, I was really impressed. Can't wait for the turn by turn app.
i love this phone and all, (note to all i was a heavy iPhone user, had both 1st and 2nd gen.. also love them both.. but wanted a change)... anyways as i was saying i honestly like android alot.. so thumps up to google.. and the phone physically aint to shabby... but since were talkign GPS !!! its F***** stinks its horrible, i mean i know the rules, you have to be outside .... and REALLY you have to be outside... for the GPS itself to work... again this is compared to my iphone gps... which is amazing compared to this one.... they really did a bad job for the gps on this bad boy, even when im outside, and driving it doesent move smoothly and is not as accurate as other phones....
What would this device due for the G1?
GARMIN Mobile GPS 10x, GPS Receiver for Smartphones, BlackBerry, PDA, Laptop (010-00579-19)
Absolutely nothing without the navigation software that goes with it.
And Garmin doesn't make a version of it for Android and likely won't. It would be competing with it's NuviPhone planned to release 1Q09.
We're all just going to have to wait for AndNav2 to release using Open Street Maps.
My Gphone has been working great for the first 3 weeks I have had it!
Now suddenly I can only receive 3 yellow line sats and no fix even when outside in a location where I normally have at lease 8 to 10 sats. Tried turning off and on and even removed the battery for 3 mins and still onlyy 3 sats. Im devastated any thoughts about this problem??
