i honestly don't know.
but if you're so anxious, why not root and do it manually?
Just for the record, I have not received a notification for an upgrade to Android 1.5. In any case, I read in one article from Computerworld that cooked ROMs can cause G1's to not recieve a notification for the upgrade. My phone is not rooted, but I did manually upgrade to RC33, the last major upgrade. Can manually upgrading my phone to RC33 cause problems in terms of receiving a notification for the upgrade, or installing the upgrade?
This may be a trivial question, but I am really anxious about Android 1.5 (Cupcake).

No, you should be fine. The logic checks are still there if you manually updated using a Tmo release (which you did).
When in doubt, the manual download for it will be available.
On a side note, Android 1.5 has only been released OTA for ADP phones (dev phones only). So unless you're a dev using an ADP phone or are running on a homebrewed dev firmware, you won't receive it yet.

Plus when everyone starts receving the update, meanin regular non-rooted users, you'll see the forums busy with "just got updated".
If you manually updated and used an offical rom your set. If you used a hacked release then thats a different story.
