    Just found this article, http://www.camera-core.co.uk/25-09-2...e-matters.html

I totally disagree with this guy. The main reason I am buying this phone is because of android os. The fact that it's by the people for the people and the freedom that developers have is the reason I want one. Plus the bonus is a bad ass g1 phone that is very very cool.

Yes, but, more than likely, you're not the average cell phone user - like my parents who only wants a phone that can make phone calls or my cousin who wants to text - she doesn't care about anything else.

You know what android can do because you're on the internet reading and researching. The average cell phone use doesn't do that.

I think it would be genius of TMobile and Google to market this phone based on what it can do for the average consumer - not based on the OS. For instance, the ShopSavvy app would be useful to the average consumer. So would Google Maps and Streetview. I'm sure there are other apps that are useful as well. That's what TMobile and Google should emphasize - they would have to make the consumer believe that they need this and how it would change their life.

The Lord is my strength and my redeemer...

soon the software will matter. cellphones are trending to be more and more full featured everywhere you turn. Soon people will start to say "well i paid $200 plus a data plan for my phone too, how come mine can't do that?" You will see. This industry is going to change quite a bit.

On the other side of the spectrum computers are becoming more and more like cellphones. Look at the Eee PC 901 go that ASUS is putting out. deutche telekom (T-mobile's mother company) is releasing this laptop, which sports built-in 3G and a 6 hour battery life, in Germany. Is it only me or does that sound very interesting to anyone else? A mobile phone company is selling a mobile laptop with a built in 3G radio with data plans. SO COOL!

Eventually the cellphone and the PC will meet in the middle along with the GPS, digital camera and mp3 player and everyone will be walking around with an awesome device in thier pocket capable of doing almost anything you could ever want a mobile device to do, and this guy thinks people dont care about what software it comes with? its a joke. He contradicts himself right in his conclusion "ABI believe that to make the Andriod work as a big time seller, OHA and phone manufacturers will have to avoid promoting Android itself, as they believe that buyers have little interest in which platform runs the phone, and only care about what it does and how it looks." umm ok, so i guess the platform has nothing to do with 'what the phone can do'. you got it buddy

Everyone has their own opinion but as an analyst his clients perhaps have reason to pause. Blanket anaylsis like this is intentionally designed to be vague and not have anything that can be definitively said to be wrong. It is valueless and says essentially nothing.

On one hand different segments of the market base their purchasing decision on different factors so he is wrong, on the other hand there are folks who base their purchasing decisions on how the phone looks and feels. So he is right, but as a marketing professional these things are decided in early stages when you identify the segments you are targeting and what will appeal to them and highlight those factors.

For more tech savvy audiences Android can be a big selling factor, for other segments you can position the same phone accordingly depending on what segment and what they are mapping to.

I think this article is partly true... its true in a sense that if you look at our past, the majority seem to only care about the newest most gadgety phone but as the phones keep duking it out we are now starting to realize what we really want. I think by now people are starting to become more concerned with the quality of OS and backbones of a phone rather than if it has a higher megapixel camera or how slick it looks.

We're sort of stuck between two mindsets but one thing for sure is that we are moving past the candy and becoming more aware of the things that matter.... Android still has not much real estate in this market but as their alliances w/ Tmobile pushing the Open source ability to create apps made by the users for the users, momentum is definitely going to keep building and feed the viral marketing initiatives. The amazing thing I've really noticed about the launch of the G1 is it has been gaining momentum thru grassroots efforts and I would 100% take grassroots momentum over any other marketing initiatives.

Depending on his age. He might be thinking that all new phones are becoming to feature rich or complicated for the non-technical user. Especially the older consumer. I know my dad always had trouble with his phone (pushing wrong buttons, etc.). Thank god for the Jitterbug (you can't get anymore basic than that). I think his overall logic is saying that we like the G1 because of what it can do and its possibilities or looks, and the platform really doesn't matter. Some consumers buy strictly because of name and some strictly for features and benefits.
    WITHOUT WISDOM, KNOWLEDGE IS USELESS.

this site is a prime example about the excitement this phone is going to create for techy ppl and the avg consumers... the phone isn't even released yet but we have active users on here pushing the movement. That speaks tons since most other phone sites have typical conversations to help someone fix problems or upgrade.... on this site the single coolest hook is that the users are actively helping create ideas to garner this phones full capabilities. Not to say any other site isn't very interactive but there's really only so much to discuss phone wise.

I am in no way a very tech savvy person yet I'm finding so much interest in the G1's capabilities... I have been telling my friends and families about it actively promoting its possibilities. I do think Tmobile, HTC, Google's marketing efforts will be pushed more heavily towards the mainstream avg cell phone users more inclined to jump on for features and looks. It's too early to launch a full marketing promotion on the G1 without wasting millions this early in the game.

watch the amount of forum members rise as these phones start getting into the hands of the end users. We should have titles under our screen names to denote early adapters....
