    I just got a DroidX having used a Palm Centro for years. Like yourself, I had decades worth of information segregated into numerous categories. I used your conversion program and followed your procedure. It worked !!! THANK GOD !!! My life is in my address book especially with lots of information captured in the 4 'Custom' fields.

    I was able to successfully transfer all categories except 4 of them. They will not convert. I do not have 'printable:' anywhere within them. Are you aware of any other characters, character combinations etc. that might prevent the program from converting the selected entries?

    Thanks for any help that you can provide.

    Steve

    Anyway, thanks a bunch for the help that you posted.

    FYI - I was not able to successfully transfer four categories initially. They would not convert using your program. Then I simply tried renaming the files to one that I had used previously to transfer another category. Then it worked for some unknown reason. The names of the files that I used which would not convert were: Government, Financial, Utilities, and Educ and Prof. When I changed the name to 'Auto' when I converted each one, it worked. I simply renamed the file back to the original category name after they were converted.

    Hi JStuppy !

    Great solution!

    Is it possible to get the source code of your program?

    I would like to change a few things for German users (ex. Zip)

    Thank you!

    Same here.

    From Palm Desktop I selected all contacts, exported as vCard file. It creates a .vcf file.

    Then, from my Google account, I imported the .vcf file.

    Worked just fine.

    1. On your Palm|TREO go to contacts
    2. Choose contacts category to display "business", "private", etc. For All contacts - obviously select "All"
    3. Press MENU button and choose "Send Category"
    4. Then choose "e-mail", "bluetooth" or "beam" - this will export your contacts in *.vsf file (I used e-mail)
    5. Go to Gmail, select "Contacts", then Import
    6. Locate your *.vsf file and import your Palm contacts into Gmail account
    7. Edit if needed
    8. Enjoy

    This method can be particularly useful for those who experience problems of syncing TREO with PC.
    Thank you! This works, but doing one contact at a time is a slow process. I hasten to add, lot faster than re-entering

    For those wishing to continue using the Palm Desktop and have the ability to directly sync the data to an Android device, CompanionLink is the simple solution.

    I migrated to Android 2.2 (HTC Thunderbolt) from Palm 6.2.2 (Centro). Needless to say, I was sorely disappointed with the selection of Android programs, from lack of a desktop application to even the most basic of calendars.
    Frankly, I never heard of CompanionLink nor had I read anything, in my research over the last several months, referencing the product in blogs – except for one. Out of desperation I tried this relatively obscure product. Imagine my surprise when it was the exact solution to my problem; a substitute for the Palm Desktop for Android.

    I tried B-Folders, which merely imported only Palm Memo and Palm Contacts data. Its interface lacked thoughtful design. Its programming demanded annoying repetitiveness. It was merely a part of the Palm Desktop software suite; and not a very good partial replacement.

    Many products limited backup to Cloud. Maybe I’m old fashion, but I just don’t want every single detail about my life, literally, to be floating in cyberspace. I don’t want the information parked on a remote server somewhere. I want to back up my mobile phone data to my desktop computer, and vice versa.

    Thank goodness for CompanionLink. It was simple to install. I was operational in under 30 minutes. The ability to try out the full program without restrictions was greatly appreciated. It is a clear demonstration of the developer's confidence in the product. It’s accompaniment, DejaOffice, was a free Andoid Market application. It alone would have been worth something given that it mimicked everything Palm Platform had to offer.

    CompanionLink was the answer to my prayers after weeks of trying dozens of applications to replace Palm Desktop. Not only is the CompanionLink interface elegant, it updates the Palm Desktop to be totally compatible with Android. A huge plus is that I don’t have to abandon my Palm Desktop software. I can continue with a well thought out interface that coordinates all the elements of my business and personal life.

    Finally, somebody got it. I have been wondering why no one has addressed the needs of millions of Palm users. I have relied on Palm’s organizational ability for nearly 30 years. It was, and still is, the best way to get things done. Period.

    Thanks for this wonderful product, CompanionLink. I may now get back to tending business, as opposed to fiddling with organizational software that does not interface.

    I purchased a HTC Thunderbolt. None of the Verizon stores had a holster for the device. I ordered a Sediel Holster over Amazon only to informed that delivery would be anywhere from two for five weeks away.

    A trip to the local Best Buy revealed several holster designs - and no shipping.

    As a long time Palm user I also looked for a way to migrate to Android (Palm did very stupid things) and settled on B-Folders. It imported all my memos and contacts and it has a desktop version like Palm Desktop that you can sync with over USB or Wi-Fi. Categories became folders and you can create a deep hierarchy to organize a lot of notes. Everything is encrypted and I can even sync between my desktop and laptop without using any cloud! I'm very happy with it. Solid quality and responsive support.

    Here's what worked for me. I'm not comfortable with my contacts on the cloud at this time, so I use a USB cable for syncing, and dejaOffice on the Android. I need reliability for professional reasons, don't have time to play with improperly formatted files created by Palm and Agendus, nor to fight Excel as it mangles those few unlucky cells in my 3300 contacts accumulated since 1990.

    Former environment:
    * Laptop: Agendus Pro, Windows 7
    * Handheld: Palm Centro

    Target environment:
    * Laptop: Outlook, Windows 7
    (don't touch Agendus just in case)
    * Handheld: Samsung Epic, using DejaOffice.

    These steps worked for me:
    * backup your laptop, at least your Palm folder
    * Buy companionLink and dejaOffice ($50, or $150 with support)
    * buy pocketCopy from Chapura.com ($25)
    * Use pocketCopy to migrate from Agendus to Outlook
    -> outlook remaps your task priorities to 1,2,3; check it.
    -> spot check everything
    * On Android install dejaOffice
    * set dejaOffice to:
    do USB sync, not sync with Android;
    Settings, private, sync private records.
    * On Laptop set companionLink to
    sync Android via USB; Microsoft Outlook.
    Outlook settings: purge and reload contacts, outlook is primary.
    Advanced settings: synchronize personal category.
    * Connect cable. Charging mode (not Mass Storage mode; USB debug off).
    * tap dejaOffice, tap "Sync"
    -> Laptop's companionLink blue bar advances.
    * after laptop says it's finished, tap Android OK.
    -> Android says "Synchronizing"

    My experience to date:
    * dejaOffice is a bit slow. If you did sync with Android it would certainly be faster.
    * I've used this setup for a week now; haven't lost anything yet.
    * sometimes dejaOffice crashes, seems not to be a problem, just restart it.
    * straight Agendus or Palm sync to Android is unstable due to Agendus/Palm issues
    * Outlook tasks have only 3 priority levels; Palm had 5. Too bad.

    Let me know if this helps, so I can edit it to keep it right.
