Default Overcast Skies = No Data Connection

Has anyone else had the problem of their data connection being out because of really overcast weather? This is the second time this has happened. As of now...I have no data connection, and I can only attribute it to very overcast skies.

    I am in Houston, TX.

    Anyone else have this problem?

I haven't had this happen with my data connection, but I did have it happen with my GPS on Saturday.

It's been raining here in Cali, good reception....
You might have an overturned cell tower?

I thought about that one remister, but it's happened twice now....and both times it has been VERY overcast and nasty outside.

My theory is...when the cloud ceiling drops down...data can't be passed. I'm only a few miles outside of Houston....really strong data connection here normally. I'm hoping others have had this problem.

Just reboot your phone, it has absolutely nothing to do with the weather.

Then send your phone in for a replacement.

Just overcast skies shouldn't have an impact...if anything the cloud cover would improve reception by reflecting some of the radio waves back down.

Heavy rain and lightning might have an impact, though.

Weather doesn't make a bit of difference - as long as you have coverage... There is a slim chance the uplink from the cellsite to T-Mobile has issues - these are likely not weather related.

How many bars of signal do you have? If you drive 5 miles or so away and reboot the phone do you get data? Meaning is this an isolated data outage? Have you called 611 and asked if there is an outage in your area? Is the Data plan correctly shown as for a G1 on your account?

Replacing the phone until you know the above is meaningless.

Actually, weather could play a part if the tower has some issues.

I am into Ham Radio and in the club that I am in we have a repeater that when the weather is bad, we loose the signal or get really bad quality. Remeber that the best place to put towers are high up and the weather can be alot worse the higher you go. Than being said, I do not believe that is the reason since tmobile has alot more dependance on there towers. I would contact Tmobile to see if there is a data outage first and see if you can track others in your area that have a G1 and see if they are experiensing the same problem. Hope this helps
