Anyways , there is nothing wrong with rooting your phone . Like everything else , just be careful while modding it , and it will be ok . Rooting is a PERSONAL preference !

Sadly in all truth a boulder ran over something of mine a few weeks ago, wasn't my phone, it was my ankle! :[ hahaha that day was hectic.

No, no, NO! Rooting did not almost kill your G1. YOU trying to root almost killed your G1.

Rooting is not for everyone.

I figure that a generous estimate of how many G1 owners should root, is 5% (it's probably actually half that or less).

Just like there are folks (most folks) who should not own cars capable of going 200mph or have a "The Button" (cold war nuke reference) or carry large quantities of pure liquid nitro glycerine around....

This is so funny, only people who'd be against rooting are the ones who have no idea what the benefits are. I mean its kinda unbelievable

The problem is you rooterst just think your the best just because you are rooted. Being rooted doesn't mean that your phones are better than any of our non rooted ones.

I know! All the people that aren't building their own Android distributions are pretty stupid, right? The source is readily available yet they don't build it themselves to test things out and be on the cutting edge! It's kinda unbelievable!

Not to sound like an ass, but yes it does. Let me put it this way: Would I rather have a phone capable of tethering, running custom roms that increase functionality, different themes that drastically change the appearance, and much greater storage capacity for caches and apps? Absolutely! Those features make rooted phones better than unrooted. None of us would have bothered rooting if there weren't benefits to it. Not to say that the G1 is terrible without being rooted, but the added benefits of rooting make it a much better phone.

And I rest my case... no offense but you need to do a little research. The fact is root > no root. Also its really easy to do, took me 30 mins and I had cupcake weeks before the OTA update for my area......
