Default No Google Apps on Android, yet: The reason why

When I first researched my G1 I was using chrome. I am a big Google Apps user. Of course when I heard Google was coming out with it's Mobile phone based OS. I had to have it. Unfrotunately, the phone doesn't have that capability to utilize Googles Cloud based applications...

So patiently I've waited and continued to research on the reason "Why?".
In an online article about Google gears.
    Article

The biggest single hurdle to mass adoption of web-based office software is the inability to use it when online access is not possible (in airplanes and other fun places off the grid). Offline access is also reassuring for those times when the cloud platform is having trouble: at least you can work offline for a while. This is not a small feature. It is the big one.
"Gears for Mobile Is the Holy Grail"
We had a fascinating talk with Vic Gundotra (VP of Engineering) and Sumit Agarwal (Mobile Product Management). They laid out a mobile strategy that clearly shows that Google is thinking bigger and deeper than anyone else about the future of this huge market. They were also frank about the scale of the engineering challenge. Looking globally, there is no dominant mobile device. In fact, it is an extremely fragmented market. That is a problem when each user expects a native interface.

Vic Gundotra described how about a year ago Google bet that the mobile browser would be the unifying force. Specifically, the strategy was to standardize on Webkit-based browsers. That makes sense but still leaves out the all-important offline access question. So, I posed the "What about Gears?" question. I was told that Gears in a mobile browser was, of course, the "holy grail."
It's all about the Gears. Once Google produces the gears for our mobile devices we can work off-line with Google apps and then save and upload and save our files via Online. To me this is a reassuring article that Google also believes this is an important feature to have on our Android based phones. Google understands what the problem is, and now it is a matter of engineering the solution. One step closer.

This is not a bit surprising to me. Google has always been known as a company that loves real challenges and has a tendency to neglect things that even a junior developer can do. Most of their products are both revolutionary in technology and lacking in basic functionalities at the same time. You know what they call a mad genius who can't even take care of his basic needs? Mentally incompetent.

By the way, Gears is right there now in the Android browser. I just tried an experiment with Zoho Writer thinking I might have more luck than with Google Docs. I loaded a file into Zoho from my PC. Brought it up on the Android. Zoho comes up perfect inside the browser but you can't change the emphasis of the cursor to edit. I therefore decided to see if I could edit it offline using Gears. I took Zoho Writer offline, I then went into the browser's setup to Gears. I selected Zoho as a trusted site. Zoho then downloaded my docs to the phone and then... and then... well, the docs came up in the browser in a raw text mode without Zoho and without being able to edit anything. But it was sure close.

I think its a gear that allows it to work offline... than creating a system that doesn't consume too much of your online resources when saving automatically online etc... Really it will be the gear of gears which enables all Android based phones to utilize the cloud computing feature... they only have a couple now... when the emergence of more cloud based Apps come out... google probably wants to be the browser of choice to run all those apps...

Thats why I think it's not so simple... not an easy task... they are building the foundation to an entire city... even though there only is a small town living in it at the moment...
This big company I believe is thinking ahead... on this situation...
