Newb Question - How does it all work!?

Hey guys,

Sorry, I may be have the completely wrong idea of what Android it.

Is it an "OS" for mobile phones?

If so, is there a list of phones that it is compatible with?

Also, if I am right in thinking it is an "OS" for phones, is it ready and available for installing on said phones?

Yes it is a OS for mobile phones that is 100% tweakable!

It hasn't been released yet. It will be available for many different phones but it is likely that there will be a couple "hot" phones that are likely to be dubbed "G-Phones". I am uncertain you will just be able to install it on any phone. But if there is enough popularity I am sure some people will adapt the software to run on said phone, such as the iPhone.

It will most likely be released by Christmas time.

There is a developer challenge going on right now that is paying 10 Million for cool new apps.

Go to the android home page (search google for android) and follow links to top 50 applications to get a clearer picture.

Its actually going to be hitting on October 13th. Stay tuned for the official announcement, it should hit any day now.
