Default Need help with a force close error...

I keep randomly getting an error message that reads: "The process com.google.process.gapps has stopped unexpectedly." Does anyone know what this means. I haven't quite pinpointed the exact moments that I get this error, as I said in the beginning, it's random...at least at the moment....

Type of phone? What apps do you have installed?

I've come to find that when things randomly forceclose is when too many abckground apps are running and there isn't enough RAM or memory to hold them so they forcekill. The type of error you get is a system thing similar to all thgat above.

I'd recomond using Tasdkiller or just doing a factory data reset.
But let me know if you choose to to the reset.

Here is a lis of apps I have:

    ASTRO
    aTrackDog
    Better Cut
    Better keyboard
    DroidCaddie
    Facebook
    FBabble
    Gensoid
    Google Sky Map
    GPS Status
    Graviturn
    Texas Holdem Online
    IcViewer
    Listen
    My Account (T-Mobile)
    MyTracks
    Nesoid
    OpenHome
    Pandora
    PicSay
    Sherpa
    SnapPhoto Pro
    Spare Parts
    SportsTap
    Task Panel
    WeatherBug
    Xtremelabs SpeedTest

As seen in my signature, I have a G1 that is un-rooted. And, as seen above I have TaskPanel which doesn't show much, other than openhome and better keyboard, running in the background when this error occurs. Now, I do have a few widgets on my home screen: Facebook, Pandora, Settings, and WeatherBug. I rarely use Pandora and both the Facebook and WeatherBug get are set to be updated every hour. Could any of these widgets possibly be contributing to the problem?

com.google.process.gapps is the GMail app. You may have some corrupt data saved by GMail on your phone - this does happen from time to time when the phone keeps switching connections during a sync.

My suggestion would be to go to Menu -> Settings -> Applications -> Manage applications -> (wait a few seconds for the list to populate) GMail -> Google Mail Storage, and press the Clear data button. This will clear all of your downloaded emails in your GMail app. Don't worry though, they'll download again from the server when it next syncs.

The problem may well go away at this point, but it it doesn't (and make sure you know your gmail username and password before doing this) do exactly the same thing, but this time clear the Google Mail data instead of the Google Mail Storage. Reboot your phone. If memory serves me correctly, you may have to sign in to your Google account again when you reboot (a bit like how you did when you booted your phone for the very first time), but I might be wrong about that bit.

Thanks for the detailed responses! I haven't gotten the error since clearing the data from gmail storage. Of course it's only been four hours since. But, I really appreciate it...

That corrupt data gives people more problems than anything else! Not only in gmail, in the market, maps, and many other apps. If i have any issues with wny apps, the first thing i do is clear that apps cache/data.
