Default Need help configuring new PC.

I am looking for some help in configuring a new PC. The last one I put together was a socket 478 p4 and things have changed drastically since then. I am trying to stay under $1000 if possible and I'm not real worried about gaming. I just want it to be as fast as possible. I think I want to go with a quad core and either a small ssd hard drive or a 10,000 0r 15,000 rpm hard drive for the os and programs . I'm not sure what would be better with that either. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks for any help. d

Buy my computer. It kicks ass and it's all yours for $400.

I am very experience with building computer. Since you have a 1000$ to spend (excluding monitor?), consider going with the new i7 core from intel and DDR3 memory. If you look for some deals around, im sure you can get it under $1000. As for the SSD, it will probably push your pc over 1000. SSD is still new in its stage, I would wait for a bit until it is more developed and price is lowered. The Fusion IoDrive is coming out, im sure all the traditional SSD will lower in price.

    get a i7 for processor
    nvidia 9800 gt
    ddr3
    possible sfx card

also, sandisk is releasing a ssd which run at a eqivalent to 40,000 rpm plus pretty decent price.

Thanks for the reply. I was looking at the western digital 10000 rpm raptors and they seem to get good reviews. I was thinking two 74 gig in a raid0 configuration, which I have never setup.
