Default My Rant about the N1

So understandably I think it is a good phone, but when I herd Google completely avoided the multi touch question and I read a review mentioned there is no way to play [the reviewers favorite game/emu for Android] Nesoid it kind of just bothered me and the following lines are what became of it.

When you really look at it, I don't see where Google has any good footing in the business.
Ok we won't support multi touch so Android won't have any good games besides point to click/shoot
And we don't have any native music or movie store [that anyone uses, I guess you could say we have Amazon]

And you know, I'm ok with that. Android doesn't want to be an Iphone that's cool with me.

But they suck at business too!
Nothing like Microsoft Office, or Excel, or PowerPoint. Nor do they have anything relative at all to be remotely in the game!

They perfectly suck mutually at everything!

And the only noticeable thing I can see about the Nexus 1 they've done is Add 3d drivers/graphics and that's cool...if you don't own a MAC COMPUTER or an APPLE PRODUCT!

It's garbage, and that Snapdragon is worthless and the only thing I really see it being used for is the live backgrounds and that's cool...if you drop acid!

I never minded Gmail.com up until I saw how clean Yahoo.com looks with it's mail system.

Google is becoming like Microsoft [IN MY OPINION] in the sense they'll release garbage products and claim it's good and won't provide any support when they break with the exception it's open source so we can fix it ourselves in communities. Which I do appreciate.

    There's my rant.
Show me some good in the Nexus.

    feel better?

nothing like office? what is google docs?
and i prefer gmail to yahoo because of spam filters...

but honestly the best thing about all this is it's free, move to where ever you want to, you know that...

and for the record yahoo's mail is only good because everyone left for gmail because it was so much better...

    A little bit
I've tried Docs, it feels like Notepad in comparrison to Word on my PC.

And agreed, I think Google is the mainstreamed version of Linux that's less Tech for everyday users but what, didn't there Gmail just come out of Beta after like Ten years?

I just don't think much of the Nexus besides they added 3d drivers which literally does nothing for the phone.

i don't think gmail being in beta is any comparison to it having been one of if not the best free email program for those ten years it was in beta (and still is imo)

docs is a bit more sparse the word, but I've never used word for anything more then a notepad, with the ability to change fonts and such. which docs does, i actually use open office when i do use a document program, so i can't say to much about either docs or office anymore.

you don't have to think much about the nexus, but for me it has the following: a better camera with flash, a headphone jack, and it's thinner, those are things i've missed since getting the g1.

not every phone is for everybody, again you know that, and in two weeks their will be a phone that you like that i don't etc...

google is far from perfect, but they just seem to offer me a lot of cool things, and all i have to do is look at some ads, occasionally? o.k..

Exactly, i got the feeling like they answered nothing, like they were hiding a bunch of things from the public, like they knew what they were doing and tried to put a smile on for the camera, even though some tough questions had the pinned against the wall, like the sucked it up for the money.. Defintally not the feeling i wanna get when im supporting google or android... They just came across very dry and full of s***

wait i thought the screen was multi touch and android now supported multitouch? Doesnt that mean that the dev can code it in? They did it for that photo program on the droid?

They don't, yet. But then neither did any other brand of phone in the first week that they launched their first phone.

Let's be clear here. Android has supported multi-touch since it was added with version 2.0. What so many people don't realise is that there is currently only ONE handset (that I know of) where the hardware physically supports it. The majority of Android handset screens report a single discrete touch point, and two radii (it looks like an ellipse). With that data you can use some mathematics to figure out roughly where two fingers are being pressed (hence pinch zoom). So you can't blame Google for this. It's a hardware limitation.

Why did Google not insist HTC add a multi-touch screen? Don't know, but I'd guess - price, not many people would care (I don't think I've ever wanted to press more than two fingers on my screen at once), most people would rather pay less, maybe they wanted their phone ready sooner and found the HTC Passion a good base to start the N1 from.

Why reinvent the wheel? Why try and compete with already established music stores like Amazon?

We may see a music store in the future, but it's a very dangerous move to try and attack so many different market areas at the same time when there's more important things to concentrate on, for now.

They don't sell furniture or confectionery either. Why do you expect them to have an office-like product? Again - why reinvent the wheel and compete against already established products like Office or Open Office? Even if they did, are you still talking about mobile phones here or personal computers? I for one would only ever want to view office docs on my phone (which I already can). I wouldn't want to be trying to use all of Word's swanky features on a mobile phone.

I don't understand the logic here. They added something which you said was cool - and I agree, it's an additional feature and an improvement. Why is it any less cool if you own a Mac or Apple product? If you're comparing it to what Apple products already have then it's unfair to compare a mobile phone to the capabilities of a personal computer. If you're comparing it to the iPhone then there's nothing wrong with adding something other phones already have. Just like Apple added a digital compass to the iPhone 3GS, which all Android phones at the time had been enjoying for months. Apple improved their product in doing so, just like Google have improved their phone by adding better 3D support. What's wrong with that?
