My G1 is unrecognizable on any computer

I received my G1 phone a week ago, and so far I'm loving it, a lot. Even though I have one problem so far; my G1 phone is unrecognizable on any computer through the USB cable. First I've tried it on my Mac (leopard), then on Ubuntu and finally on XP, with no avail. I even tried rebooting the G1. I'm unable to update my phone because of this problem. Anyone has any idea how to fix this problem?

Which build number version do you have? If it's greater than RC-19, make sure you mount the phone via the notification bar when you connect it to your computer.

The quick answer: After you connect your G1, be sure to go to the notifications screen on the G1, press on the USB symbol, and then press "mount". It should show up on your computer then. Do a search of the forums for more info. Oh, and welcome to the community!

if u have a older version u have to go into settings sd card and phone storage and check use sd card as mass storage.

Exactly. Thats what I had to do. I was told to go into settings and all I had to do was go into the notification drop down window and choose mount.

What do you mean by recognize your phone? Its not like a windows mobile device where it shows up under my computer as a mobile device. The only thing that should happen when you plug in your phone is show up a new removable drive under my computer(once you confirm the notification to mount it). That removeable drive is your memory card.

Yes, please be specific about what you see when you connect your phone to those computers. Surely you must see something on either your phone or at least one of those computers when you connect it.

I do understand that I should mount when the icon appears on the notification bar, but it doesn't show at all. Build number is: RC-19.
