    Default HTC HERO (Few Questions)

    Hi Guys,

Its my first step in Android world. I have been using Windows Mobile since last 5 years (Currently HTC tytn II). I am very impressed with HTC Hero promos and customization. But before I move to Android world and buy this phone, it would be very helpful if any of you can provide answers to my following queries. Apologies, as it may be very basic questions for you but these functionalities very necessary for me as I use almost every day in my Windows phone and are

    Question for Android (HTC Hero)-

    1. Can I sync Outlook address and calendar Android (HTC Hero)?
    2. Can I open/edit word, excel and power point presentations? (If yes then does it come by default with phone like I got it with my HTC tytnII)
    3. I need navigation software. (I saw one is available here http://www.alk.eu.com/. is there anyone else for Android like i use TomTom in my phone).
    4. Any email client where i can configure Pop3, Imap or company microsoft exchange server.
    5. Voice chat messengers (like i use fring(www.fring.com) for my windows phone)

    Thanks in advance.

I am waiting on the hero to be my first android device as well, so I wont be able to answer many of your questions. But I do know from all of my reading up on the Hero that you can set-up pop, imap and exchange accounts. Im not sure how many mailboxes you can have though.

You can view documnets out of the box but to edit documents you can purcahse "documents to go" or similar from the app market.

    Welcome to AC,

    1. Yes you can although you will need to use some 3rd party software for addresses since Android syncs to google contacts. I use Go Contact Sync. Google makes a calendar sync for outlook.

    2. There is an app in the market that lets you do this though I think its either 20 or 30 bucks.

    3. Telnav has this for 10 bucks a month or 99 a year. I just downloaded CoPilot for 34.99. It has some bugs but works for a 1 time purchase.

    4. The default does fine for this or you can download soem other aps that will do this.

    5. Not sure on this one

I am sure there are others that can give a bit more info about this.

I have been using the leaked "official" Hero software and can say that it includes a QuickOffice application. The .apk file, which is basically the zip file that android uses to contain applications, is actually called QuickOffice_HTC1.0.1.apk. Since Hero hasn't been released it's hard to say, but this could mean that HTC has their own version of Quick Office that they are preinstalling on Hero.

I can say that I've used the QuickOffice app on the leaked Hero roms and it is very useful. I've tried it with both word documents and excel files, not actually sure if it works with power point.

Thanks Guys for such a warm welcome.

    sullitf,
As you have used leaked HTC Hero software, is there any chance that HTC is providing MS Outlook sync tool to sync calendar & adresses?

OK here's a good one for everybody! I am running the Superhero V2 Rom on my unlocked, and jailbroke G1. Anybody know how to get the myFaves Application on that ROM? Any help is appreciated. I'm totally confused with this. I called T-Mobile and even explained everything to them and they can't do nothing about it if I have an unsupported OS. Thanks in advance to everybody!

Hold the phone did you actually tell t-mobile that you jailbroke your phone/have a hero rom? But I really think that there is no way to get myfaces onto that rom because T-mobile is not associated with the hero rom.

Ah,you know the same old mumbo jumbo. "Sorry sir,we have no MyFaves software for the phone and we can't do much with a phone running a unsupported OS." Oh Well...whatever...I'll find it eventually ya know. And what do I care that T-Mobile knows I did this to my phone I'm in the U.S.Army,what are they gonna do,come looking for me,no they still want my service through my contract with them. Anyways...any help is always appreciated guys. Just thought I'd give you all a laugh! I kinda thought it was funny myself. If you guys know anybody that can help me out though, thank you! Talk at you guys laterz!
