Default HTC Dream's dimensions: it's smaller than the iPhone 3G

The HTC Dream sized up at 115 x 55-mm in dimensions tells us that it beats the iPhone 3G in terms of length and width but almost certainly thicker than the iPhone due to the Dream's sliding QWERTY. However, it's still longer and wider than both the Xperia X1 and HTC's own Touch Pro QWERTY handsets.

HTC Dream (T-Mobile G1) vs iPhone 3G vs Xperia X1 vs HTC Touch Pro:

    • HTC Dream: 115 x 55-mm
    • iPhone 3G: 115.2-mm x 62.1-mm
    • Xperia X1: 110.5 x 52.6-mm
    • HTC Touch Pro: 102 x 51-mm

    1. Since the overall size (length and width) of the HTC dream is smaller than with the iPhone does it mean that the screen size is also smaller? Any information available on resolution?

    2. Can the HTC Dream synchronize contacts between a gmail account and the phone?

    3. Does anybody have inside information about weight and volume of the HTC Dream?

    4. From http://news.yahoo.com/s/nf/20080818/bs_nf/61401:
Few details about the phone have been made public because of a confidentiality request filed by HTC which asked the FCC to keep several details about the device confidential until Nov. 10.
I wonder, does that date of November 10 mean that the HTC Dream will hit the US market on that date?

Does anyone have a clue of how thick the dream will be??? I currently have a wing and its a pretty thick phone.....T-Wing mobile weighs 6.0 ounces, is 4.3 inches long, 2.3 inches broad and has a thickness of 0.7 inches.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Maybe a little thinner. But who knows it has two unclosed pieces to the main device.

That works both positively and negatively. Its nice to have the larger bottom when the keyboard is out so there is something to hold on to, and it will be nicely weighted in your hand, but at the same time its more round than flat and thin. So it will not fit in your pocket as nicely and thicker devices feel a bit more "retarded". As if there not as nice or well built as the thinner ones.

Hmm I think the screen its going to be smaller. Im using an Iphone right now (horrible reception) and the screen pretty much run along the edges of the length. If if the dimension is stated correctly on the FCC application then the screen should be smaller, unless that compensate by having a longer screen from top to bottom.

Im pretty happy with the current design and size. Just a bit thicker than the iphone. I dont however like the t-mobile brand on back and front. What makes the iphone looks great is just an Apple logo on the back and nothing else.

And also...can we get this handset unlocked from HTC? or will it be exclusively for T-mobile in the US. I imagine it will be sold as unlock phone as well.

From these shots, it appears that there will be a T-Mobile logo on the front and just one Google logo on the back, which it seems will not be any larger than the apple logo on the back of the iPhone. I guess, leaving AT&T off the iPhone was what bought AT&T an exclusivity agreement for the first 3 years of the hottest phone out there. Well, this exclusivity is costing Apple a lot of customers, I am one of them (for whom only drawback in the iPhone is AT&T).

I'm not sure if HTC or T-Mobile would even think of locking it to themselves, or as a matter of fact to any GSM service provider. That'll be totally against the Open Source/Linux philosophy. Why waste time with locking the device when they know that devs have complete access to the internals and will be unlocked the very next day?

Thats exactly what I was thinking. I dont think google would subject themselves to locking the phone to one GSM provider. I think HTC will sell a phone that is unbranded. It not like T-mobile help HTC with the phone like what AT&T did with apple. Phone such as w810i, n95, and any other popular phone are sold as branded and unbranded.
