Welcome to AC glad to see you got wifi working. thanks for the post
New to the forum and not sure if this post should go here or under General Android OS........
I've noticed a LOT of people having problems getting the WiFi feature working.
I have been pulling my hair out (as it seems many folks are) to get my WiFI working on my G1 and thought I would share my fix.
I dug deep and looked at every aspect of my network.
My home network was set with WEP security.
Trying at everything that I have found on any message board including:
Rebooting Router
Changing the Channel
Changing the length of my passcode
Changing the encryption from 128 hex to 64 hex
None of it worked.
For some reason I was really fixated on making WEP working (I guess because that was already in place).
I run a Linksys WRT54G (b/g) router that is about 6 or so years old
I have my router set to only allow access from a list of MAC addresses
Router is set for DHCP; the SSID is set to broadcast; running in “mixed” mode
I am running the latest firmware update on my G1
Here is how I fixed the problem….
1-Make sure that you are connected to your router with a cable and that you write down any settings that you change so that you can backtrack if things get fubar-d
2-I went to Linksys.com and looked for new firmware releases. I updated from version 2.0 to 4.21.1
3-Under Basic Settings I changed the channel (it can help if there are a lot of devises around in your mhz range)
4-I went into the Wireless Security settings on my router
5-I changed my Security Mode to WPA Personal w/TKIP algorithm
6-I used an 8 digit “WPA Shared Key”
7-Made sure that my phone has the WiFi settings enabled and is set to scan for available networks
8-You should see your network available. Click on the Network and enter your new method of security and passcode/key.
9-If you can’t see your network (or it shows ‘out of range’) you may need to select the network and the “forget” and then repeat steps 6 &7 or
10-Add A WiFi Network Under “Settings” => Wireless Controls => WiFi settings
My phone is now running flawlessly J
You may need to “repair” or connect/enable your wireless and/or LAN network connections for PC’s (Start => My Network Places => View Network Connections).
It is not a big deal. I did not have to change any setting on my laptop.

i wasn't aware that there was a problem connecting to a that type of linksys...
i never had an issue, it found my wifi, i typed in my pass. and was connected.
glad you figured your issue out
Black G1 - Dead Pixel
Replacement #1 - "B" key worked 70% of the time
Replacement # 2 - Lets Hope 3rd Phone's a charm!
WEP has always been flaky on Linksys routers when low power WiFi devices (like mobile phones are used).. To be honest their WPA implementation isn't the best either when using a low power mobile phone on the edge of WiFi coverage.
Wow, 6 years! I have never had a Linksys router last more than two years, including the WRT54g v8 that I just replaced. I'm happy that you were able to resolve your issue.
ive had wifi problems w the wrt54g myself. solution is to install dd-wrt firmware. that fixed everything.
i guess i got the luck of the draw, because my wrt54gs is still on the same firmware it came with 5 years ago...

If you have a WRT54G, especially an older one you might want to look into DD-WRT or Tomato as replacement firmware. Either is much more stable and capable than t stock Linksys firmware,
Give me rep
I have a version2 wrt54g running Tomato. I don't think I'd want anything else (except maybe a buffalo router :] ). It's gotta be 5? 6? years old.
