Question How do you keep your G1 clean and fast?

I always clear the browser, but is there a way to clear trash? or unecesary data from apps, without uninstalling them?
does restarting your phone automatically clear things?

im new to the G1, i had a sidekick and it had the option to delete all trash from all apps at once.

also, is there a way to restart the g1? (not using the reset hole thing.)
like the sidekick if you pressed @+1+0 at the same time, it restarted.

hold on power, click on shut down.

I keep my G1 fast by drawing some racing stripes on it. RAWR!

jk, I just dont dl a bunch of trash apps.

Only use what I need. I have advanced task manager to end tasks when my phone feels slow.

    Pretty much it.

To soft-restart, hold down 'call', and 'menu' then press 'end'.

To clear app datas (from apps that you can) - go to menu, settings, applications, then click on "browser" for instance. On the following screen you can clear any possible data. Try this for any other program you think may cache certain things.

In a little while here, about a hundred people will start telling you to root your phone (gain super user low level access to the operating system - essentially "hacking" it) and then move your caches and app files to your SD card - It's a difficult process, to get the caches moved, but everything up and to that is great and adds a lot fo function to your phone.

Search around the forums for some good info on "rooting". When you're ready to go, check out the signature above my post for how-to links.

    Welcome to AC.

I also don't download a lot of apps from the market, and use advanced task manager to kill the services and apps from running the background. Also rooted the phone so I have all my cache and apps on the sdcard.

    Thats pretty much it.

Welcome to the dark side. I just shut off my SK LX a few weeks back and honestly I'm kinda glad I did. The SK in my opinion was awesome for what it did, but I'm finding way to many uses for this one that the SK didn't do.

What I always told people with the SK when it started to act a little sluggish was to turn it off and let it dump. I do the samething for the G1 every night. I turn it off and plug it in, which clears out some of the temp junk and recovers a little bit of memory. Also I clear the browser temp stuff now and then to gain back some space.

The G1 doesn't support alert reminders like the SK did so I'd install SMS Popup so if you miss a Text message you will get an alert. Also I'd install Quick Profiles since the G1 doesn't have profiles like the SK did.

Just in case you don't know here is a web version of the market so you can really look at apps. http://www.cyrket.com/
