Everyone I know with a winmo phone complains of it crashing a lot. You should definitely go with the G1, but I'd always recommend against the microsoft option so that might not be worth much.
windows mobile?
Heres the deal, Im deciding between HTC touch pro and tmobile G1
they both come out within the same week, and I was convinced I was getting the touch pro until the G1 was introduced, now Im up on the fence
I want to know, how bad is windows mobile? how is it? I always hear complaints and sometimes good things
The user interface can really make or break it for me, and the G1 interface looks very friendly
help

Well with the G1, if theres something you dont like about it, you or someone that can code can fix it the way you want it :P

I have a TMO Wing with windows mobile and I can honestly say I've thought about throwing it against the wall at 1 how slow it is to respond, 2 how often it freezes up, and 3 hor crappy microsoft is, other than that I love HTC products, just not microsoft. I would get the G1 if I were you... far superior to anything out in the market or coming up on the market.
I've had the misfortune of using a WinMo phone for a year (the T-Mobile MDA), and I would pick the G1 over WinMo any day of my life.
Windows Mobile is slow and bloated. Even for great specs, the performance will be slow and clunky. It's terrible at being a phone as well. The phone app is considered just as any other app, which means that in case you have to make a call, wait times of the order of 5 seconds.
Contact management is BAD BAD BAD. There's no way you could scroll/search through the contact list to choose a contact without having to pull the stylus out. Which means, about 10 to 20 seconds to find your contact to call..
Crashing and burning is there obviously. The biggest insult to any beautiful hardware that could be imparted is installing Windows on it. It can make the best of the hardware crawl.
And if you go crazy and end up buying a WinMo phone, be sure to checkout PointUI.com. That'll make windows mobile bearable a bit.
doesn't matter, palm treo's have horrible built in memory yet they run way better than any windows mobile device I've seen
It really depends what you expect from the device you will be using and how often you will utilize all of the capabilities of it... In my case T-Mobile MDA was not necessary needed for my needs but being into tech stuff I decided to have it. That was my first WM phone having WM5 OS on it. I definitely like customization of everything I frequently use and MDA fell into that category - well at least a little bit. I was able to change the themes, install apps, etc. and for me being owner of the touchscreen pocketpc for the first time MDA was very good choice. Was there anything better on the market? Ummm not under T-Mobile brand. Being with T-Mobile for a long time - I have used my chance and got MDA. I have had problems with WM5 but I was very open minded that WM5 should be considered like the first version of something being in the ALPHA phase. Yes, Alpha ... not even BETA release... I do not like that WM uses so much resources and it really is hardware needy. Now, I do not want you or anyone else to think I hate my MDA ... no, I do like it - but I think Android G1 will kill it with better grades
When Vincent wrote a comment stating that he was playing with about 30 apps IN THE SAME TIME on the T-Mobile G1, I think that period of dealing with open-mindness and my buggy WM5 is completed as of October 22nd!
Therefore, I would definitely go with G1 if I was you - but again, it really depends what you need and what you are willing to explore...
If you do not like WM - you can always go Android OS - If you don like Android - well, once you go Android - I do not think you will want anything out of that area... yes android area - I meant to say that but was lazy to backspace on some word and that as you see made me write another 2 sentences lol

well, alot of complaints, but, any pro's about windows mobile?

I've used Windows Mobile phones for years and honestly the stability depends solely on the firmware. With a decent custom firmware, things are much smoother. I'm using Open Touch custom firmware on my Wing, and have never had to reset it. The OEM firmwares, resets were "normal."
Can it be good? Yes. And until something better came along (such as Android), I was happy with it despite it's flaws. As soon as Vincent said they ran over 30 apps without problems, wow! Would never even consider trying something like that on a Windows Mobile phone.
Kaziko - check out some of the custom firmwares for the HTC Herald on xda-developers forum. Let me know if you have any questions.
