I have an Android Phone, and want to change the Primary Gmail account to a newer account.
The problem is that, the previous account had been compromised & I cannot login and unlink it from the phone.
I have now made a new account and added it to the phone, but am still not able to download and install new apps. The older account is still the primary one.

I searched around to find a solution, and saw suggestions like a Factory Reset may help or another solution I found was to clear data from Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > Google Apps > Clear Data.

But the problem is that I don't find any 'Google Apps' in there... I found 'Google Mail, Search, etc.' and cleared all data off similar Google services; also uninstalled all the previous apps I had installed, cleared cache through Task Manager, Formatted my Memory Card and am still not able to Remove the previous account from my Phone, and neither able to change my newer account as primary [It says "The account is required by some applications. You can only remove it by resetting the phone to factory defaults..."].

I do not want to do a Factory Reset [I fear something bad may happen], and want to get rid of this old account & need help over it. Someone please give me a proper reply, or guide me through it all & how I can get my phone back and install new apps and so on...

Unfortunately, you do not have a choice but to reset the phone. Move all your contacts to sim card, just in case.
