Default Hero vs. Magic vs Dream

i am a current G1 user and I am considering getting the Hero or Magic because of their sleak designs.(and the hero's 3.2mm headphone jack) I would like to see some comparisions to see which of them is better. How do the android community feel about these android devices?

Hardware-wise they are pretty much all the same, except for the size of the RAM, Magic and Hero has more. Which means more app space and smoother UI, but you can hack your dream to do the same... I think the camera has a higher resolution, but I dont really care for that. I'd say wait a little until there are significant hardware changes like a faster processor or a built-in memory >1gb.

Personally I like my G1 because of the physical keyboard, and sooner or later there should be a fully working rom of the HTC Hero's UI to port to the G1 and the Magic, so really, it comes down to if you want/need a physical keyboard, or if you're fine with just an all touch phone.

However, if you go with an all touch phone (like the Magic or Hero) then you need to ask yourself which one you like more, the Magic is completely flat, while the Hero has the chin, now is the chin going to bother you at all? Both phones have the same specs, so no worries on that, but the Hero boasts HTC Sense, which like I said I'm sure sooner or later there will be a fully working version (I know there are roms now, but not 100% yet) that you can put on your magic.

So in the end, its all about what works best for you.

I think they are pretty much the same phones, BUT, I prefer the G1 over the two new phones. I emulate on my G1 as well as type pretty consistently. Therefore, I, prefer the physical keyboard over completely touchscreen. I like the ability to choose my data entry input method. I won't be upgrading unless I see more of a change on the phones ...

Yeah I also prefer the physical keyboard, it makes it easier for me to type because I can feel the buttons and know what I'm pressing since I have qwerty memorized pretty much. As for an all touch, its all just a flat screen, there's no real way of telling that you're pressing the right button unless you looks or until you've completely gotten used to the spacing and size and all that of the screen and keyboard.

If only they would re-make the HTC Dream with better specs (say, on par with the Magic and Hero), and maybe slightly slimmer if at all possible, I would just get that instead of getting the Magic or Hero, haha.

I do not like the virtual keyboard on Android..seems to be to easy to make mistakes and not as responsive as the iphone keyboard. So if this is the same keyboard on the Hero and Magic, I would wait for something better that has a better keyboard.
    Just my 2 cents.

im going to make an assumption from your status that your not rooted. since that is the case you probably havent tried out the HTC vk which is much better then the google one. the keys respond better and there is an option for a T9 vk, and a compact qwerty as well...

i believe that this htc vk comes with the hero so you would probably like it better then the crappy google one.

Anyone with VK issues should at least give Better Keyboard a try before giving up on it.

You are correct. If that is the case then I would be willing to check that out. If the keyboard is as good as you say then you just have to decide if the upgrade is worth it.

My friend works for apple and sent me a free iphone.I tried it out this weekend and I was a little annoyed by no physical keyboard but it worked ok on the iphone. I just came back to my g1 and tried using the vk and it is so annoying. In the end, the physical is far better then either VKs
