Help with G1 USB to computer!

Ok, first thing I have 2 of these, 1 for my girlfriend and 1 for me.

I plugged mine into my computer and it worked fine, pulled up the folder to edit whatever I want on the card.

However, when I plug in my girlfriends G1 to her laptop/tried it on mine too, it picks up a storage device and pulls up a new letter path on the My Computer section, but when I double click it, it says "Please insert disk into (letter drive here)".

Any clue?

Yeah, You need to go to menu>Settings>SD card & phone stroage> and i think check or uncheck the (Use for USB storage) box then, it should work on her laptop.

And then when your done on the laptop remember to check or uncheck the box again, lol, so you can mess around with whatever you just added to your phone, thats how it works for me.

I'm looking at her phone now and it doesn't have that Use for USB Storage option... My phone does though.

Any clue?

i bet the one that doesn't have "Use for USB storage" has had the RC29 OTA update already, and the other one hasn't

i noticed when i got my RC29 update the "Use for USB storage" option went away

edit: go to Settings>About Phone

and at the bottom, compare both phones "Build Number"

Did her phone come with the already 1Gig SD Card, There have been a few complaints about there not being a 1Gig SD Card already in the G1.

That or maybe there is a setting thats messed up, or the SD Card just needs to be removed and put back in.

Maybe someone else will jump in on this that can tell you more, because thats all i know about the USB.

When you go to Menu>Settings>SD Card & Phone storage, Does it show there is a SD card in it? Like it would say available amount of storage in SD.

Ya, it shows the available space and everything, all the songs are in it how it came on my phone, and she's able to listen to them too... So the whole card on the phone is accessible I believe, just can't seem to access it through the computer.

This might sound like a stupid question, but I never read the manual or anything, but I can't seem to find where the SD card slot is?!

When you open your keyboard its right next to the send button (That Green Phone) theres a little tap on the inside you can open with your finger and the SD card is in there.

If you can't find it www.youtube.com search something like T-Mobile G1 SD card slot. Im sure they will show you were and how, if you can't figure it out.

You gf's has the more "updated" build (RC28) so hers will operate a little differently than yours when it comes to the drives.

When you plug the device into the computer, you should get a notification alert at the top of the phone. Press on that notification and it should give you an option to "mount" or not mount the device. Press "mount" and you gf's phone should show up on your computer.

You have the original build on your phone (RC19), so yours will not operate like that until you get the update.
