Help please: My computer does not detect G1; other computer does.

Hey all,

Not sure what to do here. I've read through all the posts regarding the G1 not being detected by computers, and I know about checking the notification to mount the SD card. In fact, on my friend's computer, it worked exactly that way, even without installing any drivers, allowing me to browse through my SD card.

However, on my particular computer, the phone will charge once it is connected via USB, but it never gives me a notification telling me that it *knows* it's connected to a PC, nor does the PC give any hint that a device is connected through USB.

I have restarted, changed USB ports, and verified the ports are working by plugging in other devices. I've even followed Microsoft's registry-hack instructions to force the USB listener to 'never sleep'.

Any ideas?

No matter how advanced your pc is or not.

Your phone mount icon should pop up no matter what

Wow...it worked! I was using a generic USB cable that works for both my portable hard drives, and at least charges my G1, so I thought for sure the cable was fine. But when I used the cable that came with the phone (was still wrapped and in the box), it immediately detected the USB connection.

I'm perplexed. I used a generic USB cable at work and it detected the connection.

Oh well, thanks for suggesting the obvious!

LOL...glad it worked...it was really just a complete stab in the dark . I have a big box of mini USB cables and dont recall ever having trouble with any of them

Hello Everyone:

I have been having the same problem for the last few month, and I was hoping that you guys can help me out. I used to be able to mount my G1 to my PC, but now my G1 does not give me that option anymore. I tried different cables and different PCS but the final result is the same; no connection. My wife's phone works just fine with no issues. I think the USB port still works because my phone still charges when it is connected through my USB cable. I recently discovered a way where I can use my phone as a modem and be able to browse the internet on my PC using the phone, but for this work I need to connect my G1 to my PC using the USB cable. Any tips are appreciated
