How do you do a hard reset without pulling the battery?

most of the time, i think people associate a hard reset with a memory wipe... if you're not erasing anything, thats typically called a soft reset... if you're wanting to do so and your phone is frozen, i think the only choice you have is to pull the battery tbh...

soft reset is gracefully restarting your phone (call key + menu key + end key)
Hard reset is cutting the power to your phone (pulling battery)
factory reset is restoring default OEM settings just like when you first got the phone
