Gmail notifications

Just received a G1 and I absolutely love it. Few questions and even fewer complaints. When I receive a new gmail notification and I click on it, it automatically opens up the email. Is there a way for me to do that? I don't want to open up spam, I just want it to take me to the gmail menu.

just click on the app icon instead of clicking on the notification

I doubt u have 1.5...in 1.5 it seems to open up the inbox but not the email itself...

Yeah with mine it takes me to the inbox. It shows me the subject in the notifications bar, but it doesn't open the email its self. Straight to the inbox.
