Surely you should wait for Hero to be available?
Hi everyone,
I am thinking about a new contract and I am wondering whether I should get the G1 or wait for the Magic that will hopefully be released in Germany soon.
I don't really need the keyboard, but I wouldn't mind it either. Bigger screen and less weight is a pro, too. The question is, what are the pros and cons on both phones apart from these obvious things?
Will it be worth the wait?
Thanks for your 2c,
TukTuk

Magic and G1 have the exact same size screen.
Advantages of G1 over Magic:
Physical keyboard
Advantages of Magic over G1:
Larger battery, longer battery life
Nearly 4x as much internal memory for storing apps (G1=72MB Magic=288MB)
More memory, allowing OS to run faster
One additional physical key, Search key
Lighter weight, sleeker design
Well it depends on whether or not you would be getting a non branded magic or not. Branded ones such as rogers or the mytouch have only 192 megs of ram, where as directly from htc has 288 megs of ram. Ram being ability to handle multiple tasks, not how many apps can be stored.
As for the memory to store apps, what is the MyTouch? With G1 having about 74M, what does MyTouch have?
about 288 megs to store apps. That is also why people are often confusing RAM and ROM.
To clarify, the myTouch 3G has 4x as much app storage capacity, and the same memory to actually run apps. Correct?
Still not convinced this is much of an improvement over the G1. Currently running 29 apps on my G1, and it's running well. I would like more apps, but must have more RAM to actually operate those apps.
Correct. However what you just said makes it sound like you are still a little confused. You have 29 apps on your G1, but not all of them are running at the same time. RAM only has to do with memory for apps that are currently running in the foreground or bckground, not on your phone.
