Default G1 crashed my SD card

Ok, this may or may have not happen to many of you but it sure enough have happened to me and I'm so damn pissed off.
I got a replacement phone because my screen stop responding (sorry I didn't put a step by step tutorial on how to get it replaced but I'm sure it's here) but that was just one issue with this G1 (God-Forsaken 1).
I placed my SD card into my g1 and it didn't read properly. Then I turned off the phone insert the SD card back in and it read this time but the pictures and music were taking soooooo long to read.
I eventually got it up and working fine. 2 days later I wanted to take a picture with this great camera phone (sarcasm for those who didn't get it) and I couldn't because it said I needed a memory card to do so. I'm think how silly is that I have one in there (i checked just to make sure (i did)).
Power-cycled the phone and it worked again 2 mins later it stop reading and was no longer able to read on the phone or the computer.
Went through the forums and people have had the same issue but no resolutions. I tried using on of those recovery software but haven't found one that would help. (IF YOU KNOW OF ONE PLEASE LET ME KNOW).
So I called the great TMO and their number 1 customer service and spoke to them without yelling of course and they are now sending me a new phone, and memory card.

    Ok, why and how?
Why - I had both the old and new phone for less than 2 months and my memory card(s) 1gb and 8gb have been warped by the g1.
Being very upset but speaking very calmly and respectfully to the rep she understood and was very apologetic. She proceeded to give me the trouble shooting dialog.
How - While she was giving me the dialog I cut her off and told her that I went through this on the TMO website and none of this worked. I used a different phone, I did everything that they would eventually ask and did not work.
She then said I'm sorry again (12x) and Overnighted (free of course) my phone I should get by Tuesday to my job. New memory card of course. Oh best of all a $20 credit for my 8gb. Great huh???

But really, why in the hell is the phone doing that? It happened to 2 friends of mine within weeks of having the phone. Please be detailed with your answer if you have a solution.

I have yet to hear of a solution, because really, how can YOU fix the card reader in the phone? It is a defective device and it sounds like you are unlucky to have it happen to you twice. I have had my phone since august and have yet to have a problem, i can understand why you upset though. The only real solution is to do what you did and get a replacement.

Hardware fails. Sometimes hardware causes other hardware to fail.

As long as your 8gb card is good quality I'd say you have nothing to fear with the new G1.

Well you should have backups if it's important.

As far as the cards go - I have bought many micro SD cards over time for many reasons and they all tend to dail - all brands - all sizes
